I don't understand it, to me it sounds like half a dozen musicians trying to out do each other

Poole

It never ceases to amaze and awe me

Just how half a dozen people can play 6 different songs all at the same time

Yes, does my head in after a while, some jazz i can enjoy but after a while i feel the need for some good hard rock.

Dissonant ....sometimes no melody......I do not like listening to it....there's other music I am not too fond of...but I can hear the merits...

Not so with a lot of jazz stuff

That's it! I've been trying to understand why it gives me the same reaction as nails down a blackboard.

Modern jazz is awful. Sounds like they're playing anything. It could be used as a torture device. If someone locked me in a room and pumped in Charlie Parker at full blast I'd tell them anything to make it stop.

I understand the form and why its what it is but it makes my brain bleed!! Like trad jazz though!!

So my answer is yes and no!!!

Like a lot of the rags and the blues, love the gypsy jazz, love the gospel cross over, but can't be doing with 'modern' stuff.

The definition of improv jazz... Three people playing three separate pieces of music out of tune simultaneously

I quite like some Jazz, but an aquaintance of mine who loathes it once described it as "The sound you'd get if you pushed a one man band down the stairs"...which I quite like.
