I love the magic of the hour record and am so glad the previously ridiculous rules have been revised.

I have heard a rumour that the UCI asked Jens to go for it as they wanted a popular name rather than an unknown amateur to set it bbefore one of the big 3 go for it

I think Wiggins will go for it in July next year. He'll do the spring classics and then time it to detract from Froome in the tour

For me the Obree is still the man of the hour attempt, who else could attempt it twice in 24 hours.

I hope Jens does do this justice, as it might force some other big names to have a go.

he's certainly done it justice..I expect Wiggins to have a go, and then hopefully Cancellara will overtake him..Wiggins is far too arrogant for my liking, he even makes Cavendish look humble!

it's not just the arrogance though, he's rude to members of the public too, since he won the tour he thinks he's god's gift to cycling but Froome's superiority has made him throw his toys out...look at Jens in contrast, great bloke!

What about Tony Martin, is he good enough to last for the full hour? I know he's fast enough.

I ssem to recall he did well on a breakaway stage in Le Tour, if not winning it.

Martin would destroy it. As would Wiggins and Cancellara.

The problem is training for it, riding the track and riding fixed is different to riding the road and takes time. Although when Rominger set his first record he was new to both he subsequently increased it significantly just by being more comfortable on the track. Part of the allure of the hour is to 'put it on the shelf', Merckx and Moser's records stood for years. Martin, could set the record tomorrow but I suspect he and all those considering attacking it don't want to set a distance that is easily beaten by a rider who really dedicates some time to training for it. And few sponsers pay riders to spend 2-3 months training for a track record rather than racing on the road.

I think that many rider could beat Voigt's record but to complicate it further suspect the big 3 would also want to beat Boardman's absolute record
