Yeah I know I'm obsessing with furniture but run with it... let's face it, I'm a shit swinger so I need to occupy my time somehow!

I've had some work done in my flat, it currently looks like a building site but I have a beautiful new floor. It's antique oak. Now I have a bit of a dilemma with my furniture. I also have a new sofa coming, it's a hand me down from one of my pals, but it's white so I'm going to dye it chocolate brown. I've bought the best ever stripy rug... reds and browns and I it. I have a fairly modern sideboard that's a bit darker in colour than the floor, an ancient old armchair from a junk shop that I'm going to attempt to recover sometime (probably not) soon, a big leather comfy armchair and two really old fashioned tables. Oh and a bit of a gothic wooden chair. And a beanbag.

Now as I write this, I'm thinking fucking hell, none of it matches. My next thought is that I just don't care. I like what I like and it all just sort of works. I'm also aware I'm just waffling now and the question at the end will be shite. I'd say I'm sorry about that but I'm not. It's nice to think about something trivial.

My problem is that the bookcase and the TV unit are nice (sorry... forgot to mention them) but they're both too big. I'm going to take the books I won't read again to the charity shop. I'd like to donate the bookcase and unit to someone who can get the use out of it. It was given to me when I moved into my flat and apart from some teeth marks (not mine, pet rabbit... now deceased... not boiled) it's in decent nick. As is the TV unit. There isn't a spare wall to hang that on and I don't think I want to. It just needs a smaller unit to sit on.

So I need to replace them and I don't know what I want in their place. I'm leaning towards old so I'm going down to the junk yard on Saturday morning to see what's there.

So... my question(s) to you, is old or new more your style or do you do both? Is your place filled with old fashioned things with a history or modern stuff that's trendy? Clutter or minimalist? Colour schemes? Can you describe it for me please?

Oh and I have a pouffe too! Get me!

Cannock

Had a leaflet through the door earlier today from a local shop who buys and sells retro 60's and 70's furniture. Does anyone want to go back to the 70's...avacado bathroom suite or orange paisley curtains??

Check some magazines on design and maybe some others on decoration for inspiration, there are some modern houses and also plenty of country houses that use both old and new elements for Deco purposes, they look so slick!

My question would be why buy a rug when you have an Oak floor, Thats like spending a fortune on a hair do and wearing a Balaclava

My living room is vintage... It's mainly old furniture, I've grabbed for pennies, and revamped myself. My other half recently knocked through to the old fire place... I love it! My walls are white as is the vintage colour washed furniture. I have no doubt this time next year I will have, changed it all completely... Look up a site ... Freecycle. It's brilliant and there will be one by you. Your house sounds quirky and lovely.

Old. Love old furniture.

My lounge is a mix of pieces, I have 2 very large chesterfields & chesterfield chair, a large sheesham chest coffee table, sheesham tv unit thingy, a very large Louis de porter antique rug in turquoise, my fire place doesn't have a fire, but a globe liquor cabinet in it lol

The other end is my bubs play area and houses a refurbished dresser, which I've painted, but left the top wooden & waxed and distressed the rest, the same I've done with an old chest which I use as a toy box and a lovely armchair I fell in love with covered in Daisies. The floor that end has those foam number tile things

"modern and no clutter for me"

I really wish I could be like that with the no clutter but I'm a total failure at it. I'm deciding to embrace it.

Good grief no... I'm talking old old. Like I have my Gran's tallboy in my bedroom.
