You can have the green from the Welsh flag..they have green don't they? Actually I've always wondered what the Northern Irish and Welsh bits of the Union Jack are, does anyone know?

There is no Welsh bit in the union flag - it is a principality.

"Wales is a Principality so not included on the flag of Kingdoms "

So Wales is a principality as it has a Prince.

The UK is a kingdom as we have kings and queens.

What will the Scots be when they are a country?

"Actually I've always wondered what the Northern Irish and Welsh bits of the Union Jack are, does anyone know?"

I thought we all learned this at school at a very young age. I certainly was.

The English flag is the St Georges Cross. I'm sure you know what this looks like. It is a Red Cross on a white Background and is usually hung out of windows and on cars when it's World Cup time

The Scottish Part is the St Andrews Cross which is a White diagonal Cross on a Blue background.

The Northern Irish part is the St Patrick's Cross - a Red diagonal cross on a white background.

"There is no Welsh bit in the union flag - it is a principality. "

Absolutely correct - but for those unfamiliar with the Welsh Flag, it is a Red Dragon atop a Green and White background - (Bottom half Green - Top half White)

In reality we will just keep the Union Flag, its a world recognised brand & its not likr Scotland can force us to remove the St Andrews Cross is it?

Personally I'd favour something like the Ulster flag, but instead of a red hand we could have a red cross on a white background with a white star and red dragon superimposed on the centre - think that would look great!

To be honest i dont see any need to change it, if the UK people and establishment are happy to keep it as is then fair enough.

The reality is the union flag has become a global brand, why hurt the brand and the business' that use it and/or rely on it.

Like Australia, a Commonwealth country with the Queen as Monarch.

They will still be Scots.

If you mean, what will the country be, I suspect that it will, much like Australia etc, a commonwealth nation.

I went to school in Australia, the make up of the Union Jack wasn't top priority in our classes.

Well apparently if we get independence, salmond wants to keep the pound, both the aircraft carriers, the queen and the entire Raf, and Army.

I'm sure if the better together campaigners get together, they will be able to convince him to let them keep the scottish flag in their flag. Maybe...

P.s. before i get shouted at, i know we really can use the pound, and it's the currency union that is in doubt, and i also know it's only one of the aircraft carriers he wants (he planning on making it into the palace of salmond)

I agree with previous posts though, it is like a corporate brand. I can't see an issue, and it wouldn't be scotlands flag so we shouldn't have an issue, although i'm sure some of the tartan clad nutters might complain

In all seriousness, I agree that it is a globally recognised 'brand' and doubt that it will change.

But, if a 'yes' vote is returned I would like to see it change

I'd like to see a dragon on there, i like dragons.

St. George may not like it though.
