I seem to be hearing a few conversations recently about Facebook blocking user accounts for 'not using their real names' stating that they can retain their accounts but their name must appear as it appears on their passport or drivers licence.

This, at the moment, seems to be only affecting drag performers.

Anyone heard anything about this ?

If it is true, it is dangerous step backwards.

I have no problems with facebook putting a stop to girls using 'mummy' or other words as a middle name. We know your a Mum, you keep posting pictures of your 'little man'. By the way, little men are still 'boys' they have been since year dot.

If a drag/tv wants to use their drag/tv name, let them.

I've got mummy on mine and I want to take it off but I have to prove by sending my passport details ( why should I it's clear my name is not jane Ilovemychildrentothemoonandbackforeverandalways bloggs !!!!!)

Seems a strange thing to do for a modern company who try to please anyone and everyone just to get their hands on all that personal info! . Lots of small businesses use their name as their facebook ID - from Sainsburys to the little nail salon close to us. So do many football fan forums and other things.

I'd guess a Drag artiste would be a business or interest.

Agree with the "Mummy" thing though lol.

Incidentally you can call yourself by any name you wish - You dont legally have to use the name on your passport or License for anything other than theyre intended as long as you dont use the name for unlawful purposes.

Facebook really are a bag of wank. It seems every time I log on I have to disable some useless or quite frankly invasive feature. However its a good way to keep tabs on my daughter.

I was under the impression that, although you have to sign up with your real name, you can use a username, which is why many people can only find me on Facebook under that username. If Facebook aren't being consistent with their rules (quell surprise

) then how do they expect people to know what the rules are?

Nor mine and I also use an alias albeit it sounds like a 'real name'

That is kind of the point tho, drag artists are, I assume, easier to le out as not using a genuine name.

So is their experience merely the tip of the iceberg ?

Oh please. Its the 21st century and some people below a certain age don't know any way to communicate apart from using social media sites. Are you seriously telling us that you issue cardboard invitations for every pint out you arrange?

FB has its place, as do phones, letters, and sky-writing. But we are allowed to complain about FB while taking advantage of its features.

This sounds like yet another facebook privacy scare, which will prove to be atotal load of bollocks. Facebook has its place, you either use it or you dont. If you use it and you dont want people finding you and knowing what your doing in your private life then change your privacy settings. It is that easy. I bet there are more people on fab that use facebook than dont

This isn't a new thing I heard of it a few years ago.

But looking at it on a wider scale, if a convicted paedophile used a false name and groomed a child on Facebook there would be plenty of the kneejerk brigade blaming Facebook for not doing enough to protect people.

Oh and before anyone tries to twist my post I'm obviously not linking drag artists to sex crimes. The point im making isvtgat uf anyone belives facebook has a duty to protect (and personally I don't) then we can't pick and choose who those rules are applied too.

I don't use my real name and haven't had any issues. It's not a name that could be mistaken for a real one either. No way in hell I'd give them any details, I don't even have my town listed. FB is just fun to look at now and then.

The age limit is 16 from what I remember. This dosent stop it happening. I didnt want my Daughter singing up but glad her Mum did it for her, as are the rest of my extended and distant family.

Everytime they bring an update out on the phone you have to go back in and change the video settings so they dont load automatically and eat your MB's.

My FB name is my nickname that everyone calls me rather than the name on my bank account...my TV mate has both male and female FB accounts which aren't connected (although his mam did come up on the "people you might know" feed on his female account - he changed his location pretty sharpish

)

Read the smaller small print, that is only preventing public display, it is still available for sale

Cant tie it into your mobile phone contracts without real names so they can't track you as you walk down the street unless you enable location of course

No way would I let my son (9) have a fb account. He has asked and I have refused same as when he asked for a phone. He has no use for either until he goes to high school

Lets face it, Facebook is run by some perverse and sick people. Banning a picture of a sick child being used to promote a charity collection and a picture of a soldiers leg stump but claiming that a video of a psychopath setting a kitten on fire doesn't breach their guidelines shows what kind of creeps are in charge.

As for those privacy question you can make your account as private as you want my personal account isn't even searchable

My 11yr old son is on Facebook yes he should be 13 to go on it. He has been going on for years HOWEVER I believe in being a responsible parent and supervising children. The email address his account is on with is mine and a password I set. He never knew the password and could only go on if I logged him in and sat with him while he played on the games. Now he is 11 he has the password but he doesn't accept anyone as friends without asking my permission and I check the account regularly.

We were the same with ours. There were a few tears but I didn't give in with FB until they were thirteen. Now they wouldn't dream of going on it because that's what the fogeys use.
