May I also add anyone (dog owner or not! ) that does the same with chewing gum?

As a responsible dog owner, who does indeed bag and bin I find it hugely annoying when I see other dog owners not doing the same, it takes a couple of minutes people!

Ugh, don't get me started on this! We once saw a couple with a dog walking past us at a country park. The dog did its business, and the guy clocked us seeing it happen, so he bent down with his little blue bag to pick it up, as if he wanted to be seen to be doing his duty. I peaked around as we walked on, to see if he tidied it up properly, but he checked that the coast was clear and just left it and walked off! I couldn't believe it!

And anyway, what about horses?! Horse riders are often down our road. The horses leave several massive piles in the middle of the road and trot on. What makes it acceptable for horses and not acceptable for dogs?! Surely horse owners could scrape it up too, even if they come back on foot later! Grrr!

Even if it is cleaned up off a pavement, why bloody let it shit there. Train it to go in the gutter regardless.

I had to laugh at this......my dog was very particular about where he went. Gutter? Erm, no chance! He'd find a suitable spot, usually in the middle of the road, then spend the next five minutes circling and sniffing before he'd get on with it

The same applies to horse shit and any other bloody shit too.

Bloody selfish owners should be shamed into cleaning up properly.

Did anyone see that awful police programme ages ago where people who pissed in public places where made to wash it away. Well dirty owners should be chased and made to wash the crap off pavements in particular!!!

Horses eat grass products so their stuff might be messy bit it's relatively clean.

Dogs eat meat, so their poo is full of parasites and other horrible things which easily spread diseases - some of which are particularly dangerous to children who play in the same area.

Their choice to own a dog - but along with that comes the responsibility to clean up all the mess and keep the damn things under control.

But it's Ok for the police horses to dump in the middle of the road and it effin stinks for days when it's outside your house and keeps getting squashed by the cars. Double police standards again.

I just opened the door before to let my youngest son out for school and some parent was letting her dog crap directly outside my gate. It was a small dog too, so it could of been put in the gutter. I stood there said 'ughh' very loudly and watched as she cleaned it up......

A seaside town near you!

I can take my dog out for hours but for some reason she won't poo! She waits till we get home then promptly goes out in the garden, under the swing, (yes I'm a genuine swinger, I have a swing in my garden hehe) and does her business. I don't need to be a responsible dog owner, I've got a responsible dog

Where I used to live the horse owners would't get a chance to clean it up.

All the gardeners would be legging it down the road, shovel in hand.

I saw a lovely roadside sign on a mountain farm the other day...

"Dogs not on a lead will be shot without warning!"

(which livestock farmers are allowed to do...)

Sounds like just the right approach -

Almost correct. A farmer can legally shoot an unleashed dog but only if it's worrying livestock. The farmer must report this to the police within 48 hours

Not when we live near the horse training facility and when they drop a load and it rains and all the cars drive over it and it goes mushy and splashes all over your car and driveway. And it smells just as bad. End of the day its poo so it's all offensive.

Horses don't carry the worms that dogs and cats do think it's called toxicara this was the reason laws were introduced it was found in some public parks the ground was infested with eggs these eggs rant washed away by rain and can lay dormant for a long time , toxicara can cause in extreme case blindness especially in the young and old even in a healthy adult it can result in flu like symptoms

I'm on first name terms with Gavin, our local dog warden.

I have a mighty long lens and I'm two floors up. I have quite a collection of dog shitting photos. You can see them, looking round to check no-one is watching them ignore the steaming pile of poo. They never look up!

There's one old woman who drives to the park opposite my flat. Takes her ten minutes to get out the car and round the other side to let the dog out. She can barely walk never mind bend down to pick up dog shit. I struggled with her for a while (not literally!) before reporting her. I figured her dog is probably her only companion but ultimately I did report her because if she can afford to run a car, she can afford to get someone in to walk her dog.

Responsible dog owners are fine. Irresponsible dog owners all get the same candid camera treatment.

I smoke out the window, hence I generally see them all at it. Wankers.

Yeah what is that all about? I have placed a bag on a fence if my lad poops at the start of the walk but pick it up on the way back cos there isn't a bin until the end, but I've never left then dangling!!!! It's little dog owners who are the worst culprits. Not the first time I've handed over a poo bag to someone. They don't argue - my lad's a Rottie lol.

People go on about big dogs, especially Rottweilers, but my dog is definitely better behaved than a lot of the so called friendly breeds. My lad got attacked by a Jack Russell who was off lead. The scary thing was it was a big dog and went for my hip!

I love animals and am confident around them all. When I'm running I really considerate of dogs. I know some will want to play and others be totally indifferent. But if an.owner calls a dog back I always walk. This happened on a bridleway that was at least a cars width, and the dog was the opposite side to me coming towards me and only went for me after I'd passed him.

Agree about irresponsible dog owners and horse riders.

But cat owners are just as bad, they let their animals shit anywhere. If you have a garden but no dog or cat to patrol it, you have a cat toilet. The buggers even dig up my lawn and shit in the holes (the cats, not the owners)

We've a shared path going to our garden at the back, the people from downstairs let their scraggy, ratty, nippy dog shit all over the path and never pick it up. We've got a collie but he stays on his lead until he gets into our garden with the gate shut and then hes let off to run, play and do his business. Their rat runs around the building yapping and trying to bite my dogs legs.

Can't count the amount of times I've complained.

We always clean up after our greyhound but when on a country walk if we no there is no bins near by, we bag it and leave it and collect it on the way back. Maybe that's the bags of poo a few of you have seen? Others doing the same as us rather than carrying around a steaming bag of shit for 30minutes?!

There is more toxins in cat poop though apparently yet they don't have to be kept on a lead and poopascooped after

Using dog owners in the title.

Implying we are all the same....before justifying and explaining we are not.

I always clean up after my dog and have also given bags to people who've forgotten to take some out.....Please in future do not use the title that implies as such.

"As someone previously wrote selfish smokers too.

Some stand right next to a bin but too much trouble to put spent fag in bin they just flick onto floor ... Mind you its these folk that probably have dogs to. Hog middle lanes on motorways. Drive 20 mph below the speed limit. Go on holiday and and their kids annoy everyone else oh and any other negative thing that happens in life"

When the no smoking ban

Took hold on the 1st of july 2007 In derby they were at one time organiseing wardens to fine folk

Who just chucked their stub ends on

To the floor £50 fine for everyone

chucked If they had stuck to that promise the revinue from that alone

In a year would have gone someway to provideing essential funds where

Needed outside our indian restaurant

taxi drivers, and the staff in the restaurant quite happily chuck all

the stub ends on the floor I,ve seen

Them make about a thousand quid there alone friday or a saturday night in fines.

So you think dog owners should put their dogs in the road to shit?

I can just see your next post....

Why do dog owners risk causing accident by letting their dogs on the road to shit in the gutter

"Agree about irresponsible dog owners and horse riders.

But cat owners are just as bad, they let their animals shit anywhere. If you have a garden but no dog or cat to patrol it, you have a cat toilet. The buggers even dig up my lawn and shit in the holes (the cats, not the owners)"

If the cats had litter trays they would have somewhere to go

But the owners most likely don,t bother with the trays and let the cats

Outside Its not really the cats fault

Then but they get blamed for it..especially when I see them in my garden to.

"I'm on first name terms with Gavin, our local dog warden.

Wankers.

Omg.....perhaps you should help her instead....you keep flicking that fag ash out the window....but watch out for the cameras!!!... "

So you think I should pick up her dog shit for her? Would you??

And don't make assumptions about my smoking habits when you know nothing about me. I have a jar on my window ledge, a tiny one in my handbag and another in my car. I'm a responsible smoker.

"The same applies to horse shit and any other bloody shit too.

Bloody selfish owners should be shamed into cleaning up properly.

Did anyone see that awful police programme ages ago where people who pissed in public places where made to wash it away. Well dirty owners should be chased and made to wash the crap off pavements in particular!!!

But it's Ok for the police horses to dump in the middle of the road and it effin stinks for days when it's outside your house and keeps getting squashed by the cars. Double police standards again. Its good for

yer rose,s if you have any but its Easier put on them while its still

Of horse manure there are some that

Would pay you for It for their rose,s

Animals have been shitting on the earth longer than there has been concrete......that's how we have rich soil......

Next thing all the townies will be asking for cow, sheep, rabbit, fox, bird and anything else that shares the earth with us to be banned.

Why anyone walks their dog in a built up area is beyond me. But keeping pets in towns is a whole other subject

As a dog owner I agree that the irresponsible owners bring down the wrath of everyone upon all of us. I clean up after my dog and see many others who do too, But, as I walk more miles off road in the local fields walking the dog I am more likely to step in it too, so it is doubly annoying when I walk him last thing at night when I have to take a torch not only to spot where he does his business but to avoid other dogs little "presents" too.

One of my other annoyances is that because I like to take him on the local fields and nature reserves I am walking in areas where there is nothing but grass and trees. Amongst all this greenery are very large amounts of litter, especially smashed beer/lager bottles hidden in the grass (I came across the remains of a picnic last month with 3 disposable barbecues, assorted chicken bones food waste and 4 wine bottles and the carrier bag they were transported in too). If I am expected to clean up after my dog why is it that people are perfectly happy to accept broken glass and human litter hidden in the grass but get very agitated over dog mess? there is no NHS for animals so I have had to pay bills for £500+ for stitching up his cut feet after stepping in human mess.

What's with the face lovely? If you have something else to say, just spit it out. I won't be offended.

I'm a decent, caring member of my community. Kids play in that park. Why should they run the risk of covering themselves in dog shit because SOME dog owners are irresponsible?

I'm happy to grass on the fuckwits and the Council need evidence to do something about it. When I'm home I smoke out of the window... two birds etc. I don't have any issues in speaking up because I know right from wrong.

You think it's bad that I care about the place that I live?

I actually lost it last night with a woman who let her dog shit up against my mother's garden wall. Apparently this woman is a weekly offender and does it here and only here.

I stuck my head out the window just as she was about to walk away and told her to clean it up. She pretended not to hear me and started walking so I went downstairs and followed her up the street and told her if she ever did it again, I'd knock the ever-loving shit out of her with the same shovel used to remove her filth.

And now, the waiting game...

If someone could come up with a simple, safe and reasonable way to clear up horse manure off the roads (most)people would do it but the suggestion on going back to get it isnt overly safe, lots of parked cars and people shaping shit off the middle if the roads will cause accidents and cause much more agro

Read up...I already said what I thought....Or is that TOO difficult for you?

Well when a person is having a rant about something, the composition of said rant is NOT at the top of their mind. If it bother you soo much there is a solution because you obviously find it too much. Therefore don't READ it any further..... "

Hmm....logical..NOT! So if something bothers you....your approach is to ignore it?.....Sounds a little hypocritical given you are so called ranting about something that bothers you! Then to proceed and suggest I should ignore something that bothers me!

"I'm on first name terms with Gavin, our local dog warden.

Wankers. no dog cat or any pet here but see more filth thrown down by humans like fag ends ,half eaten food etc, forgive us if we assume you are one of these

Canis Toxicara to give it it`s full name. Used to be a right pain in my job as a groundsman but thankfully much less of one now. I`ve heard stories of groundsmen having commercial mowers blocked with grass that was thick with dog mess and it`s taken loads of time to have the machines steam cleaned just to get them unblocked. After all, you hardly want to be poking that lot with a stick held in a gloved hand!

I wasn't implying ALL dog owners were irresponsible. Just the ones who don't clean up after their own. That's not an implication, that's a fact. It's irresponsible not to. It's also against the law.

"Ugh, don't get me started on this!

Grrr!

Where I used to live the horse owners would't get a chance to clean it up.

All the gardeners would be legging it down the road, shovel in hand. "

. That is the difference . Horse poo makes an excellent manure for your garden, leaving dog poo on the road is just plain disgusting. I can accept that of horses and cows, but not dogs.

I haven't read all of the comments but I agree with what I have read.

I own a staff cross and he is the biggest softie I know. And a lot if people will keep clear if him because of his breed and size and I have found alot of small dogs are nastier than the bigger ones with the bad rep.

As for dog mess, every owner should be responsible for picking it up.

BUT I also think that ANY animal owner (not just dogs) that walk their animals in public places should clean up after them regardless of how 'clean' it is or how 'good' for the garden it is.

It still smells horrible, it still makes a mess and its still not something you would want to drive or walk thru.

And I don't just mean dogs and horses but also farm animals like sheep and cows as they can also make a mess of public highways.

Yes it is easier for dog owners to pick up the mess straight away, but if you can afford livestock and horses then you should be able to afford to pay someone to follow behind to pick up the mess...police included with horses, or at least wait at the spot until someone arrives to clean the mess up.

Dog owners who don't pick up their dogs poo are disgusting.

I have my scoop and poo bags in various coat pockets, bags etc. Its nite hard to pick up harness, lead and poo bags when going for a walk.

I am not squeamish at all over dog poo, the texture and smell and warmth doesn't bother me at all, I'm so used to picking it up that its just second nature and a good way to check your dogs health

If manure is not cleaned up regularly it makes the perfect environment for producing unhealthy ammonia fumes in stables, as well as a place for moulds, bacteria and parasites to thrive.

As a bike rider this really annoys me, especially in country winding roads, it's not on! A wagon spills diesel biker gets hurt because of it there wagons insurance picks up the bill should you find the wagon, a horse however no insurance (most riders not all) no way of identifying them grrrr bloody horses!!

"

It's the owners choice to own a horse and despite their poo being mainly grass and cereals you still don't want to bring it into the house on your shoes, or dumped in a steaming heap outside your house. Simple fact the riders should clean up after their horses.

As a responsible dog owner, I do get very annoyed seeing dog shite on the pavement. I live in the older part of my neighbourhood and I have noticed that ever since the new 'posh' estate which has been built around us, the dog fouling has become worse in the 'older' area. On occasions I walk through the newer estate and unfortunately, my Cavalier just 'stops and drops'; I've had people come to their windows watching me, obviously making sure I pick up - which I do always. So why does it seem 'ok' to poop in the older part and not the newer part?

Oh, and with reference to horse poo, I would be grateful if horse riders could pick up afterwards, it will stop my pooch from munching it!

"I saw a lovely roadside sign on a mountain farm the other day...

"Dogs not on a lead will be shot without warning!"

(which livestock farmers are allowed to do...)

Sounds like just the right approach -

- or am I being just slightly over-sensitive...?

Almost correct. A farmer can legally shoot an unleashed dog but only if it's worrying livestock. The farmer must report this to the police within 48 hours"

Correct.

"Worrying livestock" is of course open to interpretation. I take it to mean "off the lead where there are livestock present".

If I ever had to do that (and I hope I never have to), it it perfectly legitimate to then bill the dog owner for your time, the bullet, and I have even heard of some including costs for counselling as shooting dogs is stressful for people who are usually, dog lovers.

This annoys me as well. I have a number of gardens and like to make them attractive with lots of bulbs which eventually flower. Usually get comments at this time of year about how good the flowers look. It is really annoying to come across cat mess when ing or find that begonia tubers have been ruined by cats digging them out .

Dogs eat meat, so their poo is full of parasites and other horrible things which easily spread diseases - some of which are particularly dangerous to children who play in the same area.

Their choice to own a dog - but along with that comes the responsibility to clean up all the mess and keep the damn things under control.

It's the owners choice to own a horse and despite their poo being mainly grass and cereals you still don't want to bring it into the house on your shoes, or dumped in a steaming heap outside your house. Simple fact the riders should clean up after their horses."

How, actually how do you plan I do this?

"oh and I don't care what horse poo contains verses dogs.

Regardless of whether its grass, it still looks and smells like shit and there's a lot more of it than a dogs. omg...horse shit is grass nothing more and dog shit is all the shite they will not put forward for human consumption and is meat based, educating pork springs to

mind

I don't care if horse shit has elements of candy floss in, its still big dollops of shit that looks disgusting on pavements. None of us give a damn what it contains, we don't want to eat it, shit is shit

If you feed your horse properly its shit does not just contain grass "

Really?? So field kept horses aren't fed properly??

True but until the law says I need to waste my time following every route I rode ( I've got 10 to exercise) to shovel up horse manure I won't bother, if it was dangerous don't you think they would have passed a law on it by now?? Or is it all a massive conspiracy because the government is full of posh hunting types??

Its just jealous dog owners lol

Dog poo has lots of nasty things in it like worms and parasites and phosphates etc that are harmful to many things. Horse poo, whilst I wouldnt recommend eating it, is not full of these things due to its diet.

If you don't want to pick shit up don't get a dog or get a horse instead lol
