"well if i can twist that question just a little and ask yourself what effect would it have on the people if England won it?? do you think it would just be a bit of silly flag waving out cars etc etc and then fade after a few days...........or would the feelgood factor last a little longer??? would young kids be influenced by the event? teenagers? as the dutch have never won the world cup just think what it must have been like in 1966.....and our commentators still rant on about it some 44 years later " On behalf of my family and I, I can assure you that had England won the world cup it wouldn't have made one iota of difference to our lives whatsoever! I thank you!

"It is a common belief in football that Holland are the best team NEVER to have won it. " Unless you're Spanish!

Southampton (where I live) was awash with flags and banners, the streets were full of cars with those little flags and there was a sort of party atmosphere. The moment we got knocked out it all disappeared like Scotch Mist. I think if we'd won the World Cup then it would have hung around for a few more days. The Sun would have trumpeted 'our boys' as national heroes and Wayne Rooney would be being touted as the most handsome player in the tournament instead of as the ugliest (I saw that on Yahoo yesterday) And no...I don't believe it would solve any of our problems and change our lives for the better.
