Yep too the fallen heros god bless can rem that day very well had two cousins working near by all ok thank god .I was working in Kilkenny when i saw it on the news couldnt believe it.

I'll always remember where I was when I heard the news and rushing to my nearest TV to watch the horror unfold. I think the world stopped that day. RIP to all the innocents who have lost their lives, on this day and on all the others! The world is a cruel place.

I had just got to bed after working a 24hr flight delay in Cyprus. Lost a further 24hrs sleep, but nothing compared to what the families lost. Having not long returned from New York being on a tour with a lady who's husband was killed in tower one my heart and thoughts are with her today.

Costa Blanca Spain...

I remember logging on to AOL (remember them?) and reading that a plane had crashed into the WTC. My first thought was that some idiot in a light aircraft had got lost and hit one of the towers.

A few minutes later I switched on the TV and watched the full horror unfold.

I remember sitting in the office and everyone going to the boardroom to watch the t v. The company I worked for had an office in the first tower.

Did you know that only one tower was insured as the chance of two towers being effected was so minimal.

Killed my mum...

She thought my brother was having breakfast in the restaurant on the top or the north tower. She collapsed and was admitted to hospital just after tea having not been able to contact Denis, she never recovered and was dead 9 days later (8 am 20/9).

Always a time of remembrance.

My ex husband joined the US army the day after 9/11 as he wanted to serve his country...R.I.P to those that lost their life. I hope that the families of those who have died however have yet to be formally identified from remains found find peace

My brother is OK, he did not go to NY that day he stayed at home in Chicago, but he is still doing his best to make our hair go white!

At the moment he is working for a US company in Mauritania, so still in the wrong place at the wrong time only now he is playing next door to Ebola as well as in one of Al Quaeda's strongholds!

i was at home at the time and was watching tv that new crossroads was on and it broke off to put it on tv so i told my ex and so watched it ,you sometimes think of all the poor emergency services rushing in to help folk as its their job and then getting killed as the tower collapsed

There's a song by a country artist called alan jackson and the opening line is 'where were you when the world stopped turning, on that September day'

RIP to those lost that day and since in attacks or fighting those who would perpetrate attacks.

I was passing through New York just the year before, had the afternoon free and so spent it at top of the towers.

I remember looking down from the top and that even put the wind up me and then as the tragedy unfolded the following year it added an extra dimension to the horrors that those people were going through !!

Thanks, surprisingly enough neither I or either of my brothers made the connection until the following year and then it helped us come to terms with our mums sudden death because we understood what caused the collapse.

Sometimes solace can be found in strange places.

There's a fantastic book called "last man down". All about the battalion commander richard "pitch" picciotto, they were on the 35th floor of north tower when south tower went down..he knew north would go too so started back down..got to the 12th floor before it went. Amazing escape and rescue account..very moving book

I was working for an oil service company on that day. One of our American agents was in the office as it was happening. As the first tower came down, all he said was " they have just woken a sleeping giant". How right he was. Since 9/11, the world has become a much more dangerous place for us all.

Whilst I echo the sentiments expressed so far about the tragic events that took place that day, I can't help thinking about the terrorist attacks perpetrated by the IRA over the many, many years and how they seemed to go largely ignored by the rest of the world.

I don't see anyone posting comments about remembering the anniversary of the bombing of the Natwest tower, for example.

Of course, there was something hugely different about the attacks in America on this day 13 years ago and it changed the world in which we live in.

I very much doubt, for example, that we would see reminders or an outpouring of remembrance for the 7/7 attacks in London if they had occurred before the tragedies that unfolded in the United States.

Just my take on it. No offence is intended to anyone whatsoever, and of course, my deepest sympathies to anyone and everyone who was personally affected by this terrible event.

Unfortunately people are still dying as a result of 9/11. Sarcoidosis — inflammation of an organ, typically the lungs — is especially prevalent among recovery and cleanup workers who worked on the debris pile. 1,000 have died in the last 13 years because of it.

For myself personally, although I kind of remember Omagh, 9/11 was the first big incident like this I can remember in my lifetime. Although the IRA bombings (and all other terrorist incidents before and since) and every loss of life is a shocking thing, was there the same sense of this feeling like something that was going to change things, globally?

I was 17 when 9/11 happened, and I can remember thinking even at that age that this was something that was going to have huge consequences across the world.

The events of 9/11 (for this is how it is known) took place just a few months before I turned 30, so, of course, I was around when a lot of the IRA attacks were happening.

Incidentally, I actually flew out to the states just one month after it all happened and can honestly say it was the best time to fly - I have never seen airport security so tight. Mind you, I don't fly a lot, but you get my drift.

Whilst my deepest sympathies go to those who lost someone in this event, I can't help but feel that the amount of people we've killed in retaliation for the event has muddied my feelings about it. If those who died when those towers collapsed knew what had been done in their name I think it would have caused them great distress.

I sincerely hope that, one day, the people responsible for the collapse of those towers are either brought to justice or, at the very least, brought out of the shadows for all to see.

I don't want people to read this as a criticism of the event. It is just my honest somewhat muddled feelings about it all; sympathy mixed with a large amount of regret.
