working on Xmas...

Totally bummed out. Just worked out my shift pattern up until March and found out I'm working the night clocks go back so I'll be in 13hrs instead of 12... working Xmas eve and Xmas day for the 5th year in a row and also valentines...

I've worked every Xmas day since I was 16 and started working.

This year I'm doing double shifts through choice. I do 2 days double, I get paid 6 times more. No brainer.

yup same here , worked Christmas day , boxing day , new years day and every day imbetween and beyond for 36 years ,,,, tis starting to piss me of a bit tho

Ive been blessed with workmates who appriciate ive a young child and will work it for me..

I always work new years eve and day.

Before my lil one i loved working xmas day.. carols, deely boppers, non uniform.. was just a wonderful atmosphere

i worked the last 3 xmases - me and kid have xmas eve - then they go dads at soem point during xmasday - theyre older now so no biggy - prefer to be at work than sat alone in front of tv

My daughter seems to get lumbered with Xmas day every year. They don't do it on a rota and they should do. people have families, seems certain cultures get preference in her job, but her current place hopefully might be different. You should ask If there is someone else who could do it

So far I have been lucky with Christmas day, I normally get the day off on leave. The last christmas day I worked I was in security, I had to work for 4 hours. Worst bit was the money I earned never covered travelling expenses.

I always feel for people who work Christmas, even though plenty choose to work so I guess I shouldn't, circumstances often dictate and all that.

Volunteering is an amazing experience, if anyone has never done it, I'd recommend it. I always had excuses for years but then once I did it, it's hard to stop

I've done a lot of overtime on Christmas days before and found them either to be very steady or problematic. There never seemed to be a balance.

I have had 6 Xmas's off in 40 years in work, cannot remember when I last had a Bank Holiday off work and being in the Hospitality business, these public holidays are just standard shifts, paid at normal rates of pay.

I can't believe the amount of people who work on Xmas on here, is it okay if I ask what jobs you guys have?

Maybe it's because i'm just a massive whore when it comes to christmas lol but the idea of working on the 24th, 25th, 26th, pretty much any of the seasonal period is just mental to me. I once had to work on the 30th December and I found it terrible, although I sort of had to work on new years eve 2 years ago but I didn't have a problem with it too much as I never do anything on new years eve.

I'm so mental for christmas, I honestly think that if I was told i'd have to work on christmas that i'd just not come in and risk losing my job.

I had 2 friends work at a hotel on christmas day because they got paid triple time, to them this seemed like a great deal but all I could respond with was "But....it's christmas!"

I have worked 23, 24 and sometimes 26th December as I work in retail, It sucks arse but as long as I get Christmas Day off I'm fine.

I'm on maternity this year so should be good. Just sucks arse it's the first Christmas without my dad and he loved Christmas.

That sucks. We have two elderly parents in our family and Xmas day is always a big thing but my daughter is a carer in a nursing home, lives with her boyfriend and so i guess same applies to her I hope you get it sorted

Never had christmas off but im making sure i am this yr as new staff have started saying what they will do and not do

only one should have it off as she has a 4 yr old

and since i dont do thurs or fri im sticking to my guns and sayin g no since we dont get no extra and it would be a 14 hr night shift

Don't mean to rub it in but this year is the 1st time in 10 years I will get a break over Xmas and it's 2 whole weeks. In my old job I only got Xmas day and New Year's Day off but this year I get from 23rd December till 5th January and I can't wait. Added bonus is that it's all paid too

Thats crap!!! I usually do work Christmas/New Year also but this year I changed my contract to bank where I pick n choose my own shifts. Ha I certainly won't be working it this year.
