After hearing another rant by people who are in favor of Scottish independence,and how bad it is being part of the uk/England..Ive decided maybe instead of the Scottish people having the vote,maybe the English people should vote instead if we still want Scotland,Scottish people need to wake up when RBS went pretty much bankrupt,and its was the United Kingdom who gave them a huge loan,if that happened now and Scotland was independent you would be a bankrupt country,(and I hope the English parliament would not help you)you made your bed you lay in it.... And if you think you will be getting all the money from off shore oil/gas rigs your wrong,the government have already altered the rules so the rest of the uk get the money from them...

To be honest, when it all first started, I was all for Scotland remaining as part of the Union, but now i'm so fed up with it, I hope they vote 'yes' and bugger off.

I too feel that the rest of the UK should be given a say in this.

I feel that the referendum as it stands is undemocratic.

Only those resident in Scotland (around 5 - 6 million) are being given a say in what will affect around 64 million of us.

I actually suspect that Alex fishface has done this deliberately in order to lose to the 'no' campaigners.

Sounds weird I know, but think of it this way. He knows Scotland is better off as part of the UK, but by securing a referendum on the issue, he goes down in history regardless of the outcome.

After all, if he really wanted an independent Scotland, he'd give us all the vote

That may be true with Alex Salmond,but I genuinely believe the conservatives want Scotland to become independent,because there was another poll,if the constituencies borders were re-done after Scotland left,odds are conservatives would win the next election..

Also they will become independent its written in the sand,Conservatives want them gone,because then the labour vote in Scotland would not count in the next General election....

Also should point out that in the last 3 general elections more people voted for Conservatives then Labor,but the way the borders are cut up it meant Labor got more MPs...

Quite apart from the whole Scottish debate overall, you raise the point about the case involving RBoS. Have you forgotten that English Banks were just as guilty and had to be financially supported too, with government assistance.

If you wish to cast doubt over Scotland's "efficiency" in banking, don't forget that some English banks were just as bad and equally, blame can be aimed at them too.

As for the oil/gas revenues, if Scotland did get independence, borders would have to be recognised; these exist over water areas too meaning that rigs in Scottish waters wouldn't necessarily generate revenue for England

Yes the English banks got into trouble to,but the difference is Scotland would only have about 10% of population of the rest of the country,so less money in tax revenues.

The oil/gas rigs are a complex subject,because its quite easy to re-route the gas/oil in pipe lines under the surface of the sea,and Scotland would need support from Norway has well in the oil/gas North sea rigs,which I doubt would happen.

Let's get a few facts right (instead of Salmonds myths) on this.

Firstly (and probably most importantly) Scotland CANNOT carry on using the pound as it does now and set its own taxation, spending, and interest rates.

Any currency has to be backed by a central bank which will always be the lender of last resort. How can English taxpayers be expected to underwrite an independent Scotland's budget deficit? They can't and they wont. We've all seen what happened in Greece (and others) when one currency was used in different country's with very different taxation and spending requirements, and that was WITH a central bank to back the currency.

The only way Scotland can keep the pound is in a similar way to which Caribbean country's use the US dollar, but by doing so it will never be able to raise funds in international markets and would become akin to a third world economy. Salmond's position that the "Bank of England are bluffing" is absolute nonsense because, if for no other reason, the Greeks have already pissed on your chips, and no-one will allow that situation to arise again.

Secondly. Salmond seems to think that he is now the new rule maker for the EU. and that he will dictate to Brussels on Scottish membership.

An independent Scotland will have to apply in the normal way for EU membership and satisfy all requirements, namely timetable for joining the Euro, and signing up to Shengen. Barroso has already made this clear and Brussels WILL NOT move the goal posts to accommodate Scotland. Then there is the Spanish problem. The Spanish foreign minister has already made it clear that Spain will not support any application by Scotland to join the EU. and has strongly hinted that Spain would actually veto it.

Then there is the oil. Salmond's numbers are based on the most optimistic forecasts for production and available stocks, Something that even the oil experts can't agree on, with no fall back position should things go wrong. Also he seems to have re-written the international rules on seaward borders which generally follow the line of the land border. The England/Scotland border runs pretty much in a north east/south west direction which would mean that some of the oil in the North Sea would actually be English oil. Salmond seems to think that the border is a straight east/west line and anything north of 55 deg is Scotland. That may have been convenient while the oil was British, but on a split England will want every drop it is entitled to.

Salmond is telling the people of Scotland that he is holding a royal flush when the reality is he hasn't even got a pair of deuces and it wont be all right on the night.

RBS is no more Scottish than it is Royal, it's a name of a business owned by shareholders. Oil revenues mostly go to oil companies that are owned by shareholders. Yes the country benefits from licensing and tax benefits. But the majority of people in a country seldom do. Lets stop following the dyed kippers and look for real cost / benefit.

You've just demonstrated one reason for people in Scotland wanting independence - "English Parliament"

The last time I checked, it was the British Parliament which encompasses Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England. As a smaller nation, we will forever be viewed to exist in the shadow of England. It's ignorant statements like that push us apart a instead of pulling us all together

well said that man!. I just give up now. Scottish people have always been the underdog , less important it seems. How dare we have opinions and get to vote for independence. We are all human, nobody has the right to treat us like second class. So for anybody who thinks we have no right to be free , take your small narrowminded opinions and shove them up your bum

Good luck to the Scott's for getting the referendum, what they do with or after it, is their business. But you can hardly blame the English as the only country not allowed to be selfish for getting a bit uppity about it all. They are only jealous really.

I believe you all had a raft of regional assemblies from about 1999 to 2009. They failed miserably. Self-determination is pretty much a right but the Scots are the only ones to push for independence rather than limited devolution. However, Scotland is a country in its own right, separated from England by culture, laws, education and even religion, unlike Yorkshire, the North East, the South East or the Midlands. WHatever happens in Scotland, you can bet, though, that Kernow will be after more regional power.

Let me explain the economies of all the Western European countries are linked very closely because we trade so much together! If one suffers we all suffer. So for example when the Irish banks failed the uk backed them as they are our 2nd biggest trading partner! If and let's hope it doesn't happen there is another banking crisis the uk would still aim to support the banks of scotland Ireland Spain etc as it is in their vested interest!

Oh and by the way RBS is owned by the uk government and lots of taxpayers would be upset if they just left the bank to go under and loose our money and finally although scotland is in the name it includes the Halifax and other brands which could well be considered English so don't be too hasty to throw it away!

Did we? I must have slept through it.

The only thing I remember was a referendum in the north east that gave the idea a resounding NO. Then 2 Jags Prescott shuffled away with his tail between his legs.
