"Planning on going to Amsterdam for the first time in November. I've checked through a few threads but not much info on them. Any idea of the best area to stay in, the best hotels and is it better to buy flights and hotel together or separately ? ![]() If you want good access to the centrum, make sure your hotel is on a tram route. The further away from centrum you are, the cheaper and better the hotels get. We're going to Amsterdam again in 3 weeks and we're staying in a lovely apartment near the station which is cheaper than a hotel room.

"It's been a while since I was last there but I used to book hotels within walking distance of the museums. It's easy to get around Amsterdam. The flight is short but if you've got time it might be interesting to go by train. It can't be too hard these days and I think it's only a little longer than flying. " I think I need to buy a book on Amsterdam as a guide ![]()

Any idea of the best area to stay in, the best hotels and is it better to buy flights and hotel together or separately ? ![]() This is spot on...I usually stay in hotels that are a 10-15 minute tram ride into town as they are better value for money...4 star, pool...gym etc....the closer into the centre you go, the less likely you'll be able to find an upmarket hotel at a reasonable price....if that's what you're looking for.
