"Turn off the computer/phone. Yoga breathing works for me when I can't sleep. In for 5, out for 5. When done properly the stomach moves, not the chest. Lavender in your pillow or a heaty wheaty. When you wake are you hot or cold? Adjust the temperature of the room accordingly. Get up and go into another room, read for a little while, then try again, don't lie there mulling over the fact you can't sleep, makes it worse. " Tried all of above minus the lavender as it makes me Ill.. I've tried Turing off phone TV and just lieing in the dark. I can just lie there for hours and hours tossing and turning. I never mull over the fact I can't sleep as I know it makes it worse. I'm just sick of not sleeping. Or should I say not sleep well

"Am in total agreement with Redangel. Also don't drink coffee or anything remotely 'stimulant' for two or three hours before going to bed, and make sure your room is absolutely as dark as it can be...blackout curtains, and no bright displays on alarm clocks visible, etc...the less your eyes have to focus on, the easier the senses shut down. Best of luck with it anyway, i used to struggle with it but am generally ok now, but it does get you down if you let it." I don't drink coffee any more. Gave me serious headaches.. Stopped smoking two years ago. I've tried drinking camomile tea before bed that doesn't work. My bedroom is always completely dark minus the street light that is bang outside my bedroom window. I always out my phone on do not disturb so it doesn't light up for calls texts. I've tried no drinks from like 7pm.. I'm just at witts end.. I went to sleep yesterday after 4 woke up around 9 and was on and off for next few hours think I woke up around 11ish.. And then I woke up shattered felt like I hadn't slept, it's a vicious circle.

"Deep in the bosom of the gentle night Is when I search for the light Pick up my pen and start to write I struggle, fight dark forces In the clear moon light Without fear... insomnia I can't get no sleep I used to worry, thought I was goin' mad in a hurry Gettin' stress, makin' excess mess in darkness No electricity, something's all over me, greasy Insomnia please release me and let me dream of Makin' mad love to my girl on the heath Tearin' off tights with my teeth But there's no release, no peace I toss and turn without cease Like a curse, open my eyes and rise like yeast At least a couple of weeks Since I last slept, kept takin' sleepers But now I keep myself pepped Deeper still, that night I write by candle light I find insight, fundamental movement, uh So when it's back this insomniac take an original tack Keep the beast in my nature under ceaseless attack I gets no sleep I can't get no sleep I can't get no sleep I can't get no sleep I need to sleep, although I get no sleep I need to sleep, although I get no sleep www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHVJVQzHv5Q ![]() ![]()

"Honestly i dont sleep well without a certain pillow, has to be my huge square norweigan duck feather pillow! Cost an arm and leg but it is so worth as i can snuggle into it and get it in any position around my head and im happy! I also do a little trick where when I breathe in I count one and breathe out count 2 sends me into a really deep sleep x" I have my teddy my dad gave me when I was a baby and my fave pillow at all times unless I stay over at my sisters. But when I'm there I sleep really good. Dunno what the difference is. I live alone so maybe could be due to spending so much time alone and today I've spoken to no one all day. May give the breathing thing a shot. Worse that could happen is it doesn't work.. So I just go 1-2 1-2 until I fall asleep??

"I've been suffering really bad from insomnia lately. Normally it's due to depression but I'm deffo not depressed and not ashamed to stay I suffer from depression. I have no idea what it is linked to. I don't feel like there is anything troubling me.. Any ideas how I can minimise it and try and get a good nights kip where I don't wake up 3/4 hours afterwards. " Remove anything like TV, Radio, computer etc from your bedroom. Only use your bedroom for sex and sleep. Associate you bedroom with sleeping and sex. When you go to bed make sure your room is quiet and dark. Avoid naps during the day. Try taking a walk or have a go on an indoor exercise bike during the day. Never exercise before going to bed. Have a cup of hot chocolate or warm milk about 45 mins before you go bed. Avoid caffeine. Try to set a routine for when you go to bed and when you get up. If all that fails have lots of sex and tire yourself out. Then you can act like a man and roll over and sleep after you have finished lol.

I don't do anything else in there beside look for clothes to wear. I rarely get dressed in there and haven't had sex in there for at least a month maybe more.. I've tried exercise doesn't work Walking too and from work whilst walking loads at work. (2 mile walk either way to work and home. Done it 30isb mins top) Cut out coffee, smoking. And nothing seems to be working. One time I have I think 3 maybe 4 meets in space of a few hours. Slutty I know but you only turn 26 once and I was wide awake for hours after. Sec doesn't seem to tire me out. Not even a work out at the gym. I'm just at a complete standstill. Been trying for hours now and don't feel any closer ![]()

"Doesn't have to be depression to get insomnia, I suffer from bi-polar 2. I get it when I go through hypo-maniac attack (that's actually a lesser form of mania, you feel elevated but you're in control of yourself), it actually feels great, full of energy, you feel you don't need sleep. But eventually you hit the wall, then you go the other way, not full blown depression, you still get up and go to work but you don't want to all you want to do is sleep, lethargic not interested in anything." . I must say I feel like this sometimes. And my head feels fuzzy is only way I can describe the feeling. It's strange. That normally stops me sleeping. But at moment u can't pin point it on anything. Hope I get a decent nights sleep soon.

"Not everybody needs 8 hours sleep - I've never slept for more than 5 hours and I function well enough ![]() Oh I know I don't need 8 hours sleep. When I do get 8ish hours I wake up more tired then when I was trying to get to sleep.. My problem is trying to get to sleep at a reasonable time. I don't have an alarm clock. I do like the sound of a ticking clock. Maybe I'll have to try putting a battery in my clock and seeing if the ticking can help make me sleep easier.. ![]()

"I wouldn't advise eating this close to going to bed" Most prob a downfall but was a few tiny strawberries n one peach. It's actually making me eyes feel heavy. Most prob not the best thing I could have done. Just a habit with working till 9 every night I get in at 10 have a snack and then settle down for the night. Bad habits are hard to quit ![]()

Sometimes logging on here helps I have also found a walk in the evening helps with fresh air and avoid coffee and tea evenings. The main thing though is the more you think about it the more it bugs you so its distraction I find works best.

I have tried walking too and from work and do a far bit of walking at work. Don't drink coffee anymore and been trying to cut down on the cups of tea I have. On average maybe 5 a day which is good going for me. I feel more tired today than I did yesterday so hopefully I'll drop off shortly zzz

Good luck I hope you find it.

A sure sign you've got it is racing thoughts, doesn't have to be weird ones, just can't switch off. One big tip I will give you, don't do anything in bed except have sex or sleep, don't even read. In fact don't even read in the bedroom. The reason for this is you must associate this place solely for sleeping. If you can't sleep, get up and go do something until you feel sleepy, then go back.
