Quick query. My laptop is letting all sorts of things pop up & i only have to click my mouse & things appear from nowhere.

My lovely brother in law has offered to restore it to factory settings (as i think my 15yr old has downloaded something nasty), which is fab except they don't know how my personal life is. How do i delete my history so he can't see i've been on fab?

Thanks in advance you sexy devils

Ooh, sounds like you've got a virus or some malware on there.

Clean rebuild should hopefully resolve it but depends on what's got onto it.

Hopefully the restore process will involve a full hard drive format.

As for your question, most browsers allow you to clear your history.

As for providing you with specific instructions, it really depends on which one you're using.

Have you tried a google search for clearing browser history?

You should be able to find step by step instructions on how to do it.

ystem Restore will undo programs and applications that have been installed since the Restore Point, but data files such as documents, spreadsheets or music MP3's will not be touched. So, your personal data should survive the restore, but you may have to reinstall any programs that had been installed after the Restore Point.

If you notice that your computer is acting slow, weird, bizarre, funky or any other way than the way it is intended to run, perhaps it has been infected or compromised in some way. Follow these steps to return it to its former glory:

Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore

Choose Restore my computer to an earlier time and click Next

Using the calendar, select a day and Restore Point that you want to return to and click Next

Save your work and shut down any open programs. Click Next to confirm your wish to restore your computer to the designated Restore Point.

The computer will shut down and reboot, after doing some thinking and making some changes. When all is said and done, the computer will be restored to the state it was in at the designated Restore Point and all should be well.

To make sure you don't end right back where you started from, you should make sure that your antivirus, anti-spyware and other security software are installed and running and that they are up to date.

Hope this helps

Risky - if he's any good with computers or knows where to look there will be traces of your secret life everywhere.

Have a go yourself first? You can either clean it up or start from scratch.

do the reinstall yourself

or delete all history in your browsers settings including saved form data, cookies etc and then uninstall all the browsers you use

reinstall a browser fresh if you dont wanna rouse suspicion and let him have it to do a fresh reinstall of windows if thats what you`re using

He was being nosey, there is no need to look at pictures or documents when fixing a PC.

OP you just need to get into safe mode and run malwarebytes, it will fix the problem without needing to lose your programs & data.

Central

If all else fails then take the hard drive out. But hopefully the removal tools and system restore will fix it. My laptop is as good as dead but under warranty and facing similar non family problems. Good luck

download ad blocker

look in control panel, uninstall; a programme... look at the programmes, anything that has coupon or add in there - detele. If it's only just started happening, click the installed date, and it will bring up most recent installs. You can then delete any add ons or anything that looks weird
