YYY the paracetamol and codeine mix is about the strongest you can get without prescription.

However dont forget that if you really need something stronger and you know a dispensing chemist, they can prescribe (usually small amount) of POMs if you cant get to a doctor. Sort of enough to deal with the pain until you can be seen by your doctor.

hope this helps.

A seaside town near you!

Depending on the severity of the back pain, co-codamol 8/500 should be ok but if the pains too bad then you need to see your GP for a prescription as most normal 'over the counter' painkillers won't touch severe back pain...trust me i know!

Somewhere in North Norfolk

Paramol is the strongest I know of OTC.

It depends on the pain though because certain types of meds are better for different types of pain.

Cocodamol can also be alternated with ibuprofen, so you can take pain meds every 2-3 hours.

400mg ibuprofen can be bought over the counter.

Anti inflammatories, like ibuprofen, tend to be good for muscloskeletal pain.

If cocodamol and ibuprofen don't help, or you need it for more than 2-3 days, see a doctor.

Back pain go for a NSAID type drug.

Naproxen 500mg is now available over the counter but take sparingly.

You can take it along side paracetamol and codeine.

As a branded drug veganin is great it contains paracetamol, codeine and caffeine.

Naproxen I would personally take first thing in the morning with breakfast then take the Veganin around 3 hrs later as you ideally need to have at least 6 hrs between each dosage of naproxen a mixture of the 2 should dull your pain.

However forget your dr they will just say rest use hot and cold compresses etc and pain relief, get your self to a back clinic ASAP so they can assess the damage so you don't make the problem worse in the future.

The issue with pain relief is you will mask the pain then do stuff that could damage your back further

Pop into your local chemists. Its ok people recommending but they have to have it in and the pharmacists are usually pretty good on giving you advice as its their business.
