P.O. Box DE1 0NQ

We used to have an Arkwright character who owned our local village sweet shop. He had a pair of wooden step ladders which he used to reach all the jars on the top shelf. We used to send him up for a particular jar, watch him weigh them out and wait until he had put his ladders away, then ask for a 1/4 of whatever sweets were in the next jar. Easily amused us kids

Hacks, lemon crystals, rhubarb and custard.

A while ago we visited one of the slate mines in Ffestiniog, they have an old fashioned sweet shop with sweets in glass jars and the tin Hacks jar ( with the picture of the vicar sneezing).

They give you predecimal money to buy the sweets and then sell them to you in grams

It was usually a quarter of midget gems and I always asked for no black ones (not racist, just can't abide licorice)...I would probably get arrested nowadays
