Work Christmas Parties

Each year we usually go for lunch at a local restaurant, nothing special but still nice and we never have to pay. We have been to the same place for 3 years so we thought we would suggest an alternative venue. Our FD told us last week that the MD had already arranged it but wouldn't tell us anymore.

We spent a week trying to guess where we are going and the general consensus was that we were all probably going to be very disappointed.

So, today, MD makes an announcement on the intranet and guess what, he has only gone and pulled it out the fucking bag!!

He has booked a very, very nice hotel (where we will mingle with other firms). He made a point of saying that it was very posh! We have our annual Christmas company meeting in the afternoon with canapes and champagne. Then at 7 we are having a drinks reception followed by a lovely 3 course meal and disco. Tab behind the bar all night too!. He has also managed to wangle reduced rates for rooms. So for £40 each we can have a room, breakfast and use the spa facilities the next day.

Can you believe some people in the office are moaning!!

Has your Christmas party been arranged yet?

My work Christmas party is the same every year. I can invite five quests. Early arrivers can have their pick of seats. There's no eating or drinking allowed though and you'd better keep your feet off the seats.

We're really lucky as we generally get to have a day at Cheltenham Races in early December. It's all paid for including lunch and afternoon tea whilst watching the Races on Tele or can go down to the track side. Then we all carry on into Cheltenham for a curry. We just pay for our transport and any bets we place.

If I had the misfortune to actually work with other people, I imagine this would be my policy.

Why would you want to socialise with the people who circumstance threw you into a work environment with? Haven't you got your own friends?

My employer employees 107,000 people and does nothing as they say there is a tax liability for benefits in kind and none business meetings. The hmrc limit at £70 a head with the company liable to pay tax if over....

So, I think its stay with a small firm if you want great Xmas parties.

I wonder if the people who decided on this rule keep to £70 a head or are happy the tax payer picks up the extra tab?
