So, I'm going to London for four days in the morning, i know all the usual places people go but are there any places that arnt so popular that are the locals hidden gems worth checking out?

I just ment things to fill gaps, I'm going down work related but will obviously have some free time and i don't fancy being stuck in a hotel so wondered if any local could recommend anywhere worth going/seeing

Go to the "Radio rooftop bar" at the end of the strand for a drink. Best views of London you will ever see and a really cool decor

There's a beautiful fr6ench cafe in soho that I can't remember the name of, but it's just a 5 minute walk from M&Ms world.

The Centre of the Universe

You could take one of the hop on hop off river cruises. Sail from the embankment to tower bridge and see the poppies at the tower. Then sail on to St Katherine's dock have a look at the boats and shops then eat in the Charles Dickens pub.

If your there on a Friday St Martin's in the field church in Trafalgar Sq have free lunchtime classical concerts. Enjoy??

Central

I know its one of the standards that youll know, but the British museum is so central London and has so much to offer that I always pop in, even just to spend a few mins, seeing something new and interesting. Edge of the west end too. The cable cars from greenwich look interesting too, over the Thames, if you are good with heights. Check out the legal area, north of the river, going into the west end from blackfriars - for some reason the name escapes me. Close to the High Court etc, south of strand. Lovely buildings, quiet area and historic. Have a great time

The view is nearly as good as the eye.

And there's an exhibition of historic wedding dresses on at the v and a.

The sir John soane museum is good if you.like antiquities, that's at Lincoln Inn fields.

Check out the london dungeon if youve never been.

Record shopping in soho is ace, theres a whole bunch of record stores in berwick street with some really rare stuff. Then adult stores further down

I'd vote ffor the poppies at the tower as it looks very impressive and will be gone soon.

The remains of a mammoth are on display at The National History Museum until Sunday.

The Welcome Collection is always good and I think the museum of sex has also opened there.

The one thing I will recommend is a map called "London for less". You get 20% off some places. Went to Cafe Rouge near Tottenham Court station and it was the best restaurant we went in all week.

I would have liked to have gone to "Medieval Banquet", but a tad too expensive for us

Rooftop gardens, Kensington....many people don't know it exists, but somehow there are flamingos up there, their restaurant/bar is good too.

Go novikov for a meal and live like rich folk

their food is amazing though.

The shard is open now, so you can go up there.

Go for a stroll in little Italy.

Go Kew gardens.

Check the website 'time out' for things to do in London. Sometimes the best things to do in London are free.

I quite like people watching (ok insert voyeur joke here

) but like the contrast between different areas it can bring, not better or worse, just different.

Peckham for example compared to primrose hill . There's enough cafés and parks to keep one amused but I don't nearly go enough to holland park, it though it may be a slight way out of centre Richmond park is amazing. The enclaves around Waterloo and se1 are quite interesting to wander around too though I get easily lost!

I loved living in London and on my days off I used to jump on the tube and go everywhere.

My list is huge but it all depends on what you like. There's tons of Museums, markets and shops galore

I would agree and also Camden Lock is a great place to visit as you have the market there and lots of nice pubs and restaurants to visit.

Also you could try looking Hyde park and look at Dianna's Gardens.

On appeal, they let me off with 1, but not the other.

I once had to pay £140 pound i think for doing a right turnnwhere i shouldn't have. Next thing i know, they blooody changed the road sign the following week!

I still really want to go to the Hunterian Museum. I need another week off so I can wallow in a few museums for a while. I did the Science Museum last time and the Jake and Dinos Chapman retrospective at the Sackler Serpentine. Both brilliant.

If you fancy a fun and cheap way of exploringLLondon then perhaps you could try a Boris Bike rather than a cab or tour bus (be careful though as it's a bit dangerous at times!)

If u do the hop on hop off cruise which is awesome I recommend hopping on in afternoon n getting off at tower to have a nosey n there's a weather spoons there ( I know it's only weather spoons) buuuut it's the best one in existence, table service, amazing food, great drinks and the best prices the menu is different from all the others too. Then sail back at night n see everything all lit up

That sound's really cool.

It's a long time since I lived in London but the Thames was so under utilised, mainly due to over policing, health & safety & general bureaucracy etc... unlike cities like Bangkok where the river truly is the lifeblood, - sounds as though things are changing for the good!

Wilton's Music Hall in East London is the world' oldest grand music hall. It's beautiful in there... Not to mention walking distance from where I live.

You've got tonnes of things to do. Imperial War Museum has been given a flashy new face-lift, the poppies at Tower Hill really are incredible, Restaurant on the Roof with Q in Selfridges (I think it's still open... I should really know

). Musicals, plays, exhibitions, walking tours, the Emirates Cable Cars are pretty good, albeit a waste of time, and not to mention you can cherry pick from any man you like!

Someone mentioned a French restaurant outside Soho. There's also an incredible, independent Italian restaurant called Tuscanic. Really had the greatest food there, and the staff were superb.

Tall Ships race finishes in Greenwich in Friday. There will be the ships to see and there is all sorts going on around greenwich, including fireworks friday night and saturday night. Google tall ships.

There is also some arts festival going on all along the Thames, can't remember what it is called but there are exhibitions etc to see.

Failing that, camden market is good
