Here's something I posted 5 weeks ago as a fellow night owl

Deep in the bosom of the gentle night

Is when I search for the light

Pick up my pen and start to write

I struggle, fight dark forces

In the clear moon light

Without fear... insomnia

I can't get no sleep

I used to worry, thought I was goin' mad in a hurry

Gettin' stress, makin' excess mess in darkness

No electricity, something's all over me, greasy

Insomnia please release me and let me dream of

Makin' mad love to my girl on the heath

Tearin' off tights with my teeth

But there's no release, no peace

I toss and turn without cease

Like a curse, open my eyes and rise like yeast

At least a couple of weeks

Since I last slept, kept takin' sleepers

But now I keep myself pepped

Deeper still, that night I write by candle light

I find insight, fundamental movement, uh

So when it's back this insomniac take an original tack

Keep the beast in my nature under ceaseless attack

I gets no sleep

I can't get no sleep

I can't get no sleep

I can't get no sleep

I need to sleep, although I get no sleep

I need to sleep, although I get no sleep

Away with the fairies (Liverpool to you)

I use valerian from a health food shop, it's a herbal remedy. Also a lavender wheat bag, warmed up and placed near your pillow might help. It's not good when you are going through a period of sleep disturbance

I tried the writing dropped the pen and nearly knocked myself out trying to get under the bed to get it - makes you feel the universe is conspiring against you

Maybe I should have posted the lyrics to Paranoid instead then

I too have suffered insomnia for years and tried everything, including prescription sleeping tablets so I feel your frustration, some nights I ended up weeping as I was so tired and needed sleep.

I have now discovered radio 4 extra. I listen to their audio-books, it's great.

No books to hold up, no glasses on, no television, no lights.

Just a voice quietly reading to me in the darkness like when I was a child, and it works in relaxing me and sending me off to sleep. I concentrate only on the voice and the words being read, can't let my mind wander to other things or I miss parts of the story and within less than an hour I'm out for the count.

May not work for you but it is worth a try and I do so hope you get rest at night even if you can't get a deep sleep. xxx

When I can't sleep, I use Yoga breathing. In for 5, out for 5. Breathing through your stomach as opposed to your lungs. Google it, it will probably explain it better then I can.

Essentially when you are doing it right, your stomach moves up and down, not your chest.

Titz Towers, North Notts

A hot bath before bed helps. Or request a friend to tap your bonce with a mallet. That can be very popular with them.

Mmmm

I may have a solution to your. Problem.

You are obviously worried or concerned about something when you retire to sanctity of your bed chamber.

Try putting the shoes you will be wearing the following day next to the front door.

That way it won't play on your mind that you will go to work in odd shoes, as you have been known to do

Things that can help:

Reading before sleep

Relaxation cd before sleep (same effect as Radio 4 above)

Counting backwards from 500

Avoiding tv or internet based activity before sleep.

Avoiding any caffine at least 2 hours before sleep

Regular outdoor exercise. (can include the naughty sort)

I think that about covers it.

I sleep like the dead and need a lot of sleep else I'm crabbit. However, there are some nights I can't get to sleep and I generally find having a wank helps.

I like the sound of the audio books though. I hope they help.
