Brassed Off... one of Pete Postlethwaites finest... one of Warringtons greatest sons as well

I've heard good things about Despicable Me and DM2...

The grand seduction, kind of a mix of doc hollywood and local hero.

Mr Morgans last love & god help the girl, both uplifting in their own way.

"....but everything else that happens to lead to that point is so depressing and sad that I couldn't possibly feel good after watching it......"

The same could be said of Green Mile & Shawshank- both featuring death, violence, wrongful imprisonment and despair.....and two of the best things to ever come out of Hollywood.

I'd also throw in Once Were Warriors and Million Dollar Baby, two dark and depressing films that are so well written and acted that you know you've just spent two hours of your life watching pure class, instead of the usual crap churned out- always makes me feel good

Million Dollar Baby is a superb film, but not what Id call uplifting.

Clint Eastwood seems to be doing some of his best work in the last 15 years. The Changeling and Gran Torino were fantastic as well

But watching a great film makes me feel good, watching some clique nonsense where 'everything is great and fluffy' feels like a waste of my time

I think the only recent(-ish) film that's had the feel good effect on me is "17 Again"... Might be my love for Matthew Perry though. XD

Tuesdays with Morrie - Jack Lemon's best performance ever. An inspiring and uplifting story.

Blues Brothers and Back to the Future for making me dance and laugh.

If you've not seen it, watch Whale Rider

And for a film that slipped under a lot of radars, 'Best Man Down' will take you on an epic ride from thinking it's another American Pie type movie to full on happy blubbing (as proved with 2 people I suggested it to on a plane trip)

Shrek, True Romance, A beautiful mind, What's eating Gilbert Grape, The curious case of Benjamin Button, Pearl Harbour and I would go on but the most recent uplifting film I've seen was Nebraska with Bruce Dern phenomenal study of human nature.

"......but the most recent uplifting film I've seen was Nebraska with Bruce Dern phenomenal study of human nature."

Watched that the other night

If you liked that, you'll probably like The Straight Story, a tale of an old guy driving his John Deer lawn mower across several states to visit his brother, In to the wild- a true story about a guy trying to live off the grid in middle of nowhere and finally, Wendy & Lucy- Wendy drives across the states with Lucy (her dog) to a much needed new job......then things start to go wrong. It's a low budget debut feature that's all about the script and the acting

One of my favourites is 'Mr Hollands Opus' starring Richard Dreyfus

The story follows a musician / composer who, decides to take a break from performing and take a teaching job so that he can spend time on his true passion - composing.

Of course, it doesn't quite work out that way, but as the story goes on, we learn how passionate he becomes about teaching music and the Finale is just brilliant.

I would thoroughly recommend it.
