am about to go and buy myself a tablet, am thinking either a nexus or Samsung galaxy 3.

I've got a nexus10 and love it. I've had it about 18months, a few months ago it broke and I had fantastic customer service from google and they replaced it with no problem. I went for the 10in as its a good size for me to watch films on and being a technophbe its really easy to use.

I've got an iPad 4 through my work and a Samsung Galaxy 3 of my own.

The downside of the iPad is the lack of Flash etc which can be frustrating.

I tend to find I spend more time on the Samsung when it comes to watching videos / iPlayer on the go etc as I find it's easier to handle (not so big etc)

But as with any major purchase go and test drive a few before making the choice and make your own conclusion whether the iPad offers you sufficiently more for what YOU want to use it for than others, bearing in mind the price differential.

For my needs, essentially Internet browsing, social media and storing pictures, the cheaper Galaxy does the job I need it to do pegs kt well.

Expensive yes, overpriced a little (for what it is) but customer service is second to none at all, anything goes wrong within a year instant replacement and even if you drop it you can get a new one for a small fee

Used a samsung one the other day for

The first time, felt quite robust feedback

From others with tablets say there's issues with the android software and some apps don't work on some devices

Other one I like is the kindle fire hd feels really strong and cheap under £100 but I feel you have to root it, get rid of the annoying adverts and add google play store to the device then it is a great unit

depends what you want it for or if you actually know how to use it- they're much better than my £100 asus, but as i only use that for web browsing at work then the iPad is excessive- when i get my next DSLR camera body with Wi-Fi link, the iPad is the only choice for me for post processing images on the move.

I've got an andriod jelly bean based Samsung. It's okay, but browser doesn't like some sites displaying as classic desktop, such as facebook, which annoys the hell out of me; it wants to convert to APP view.

Add to that no flash support, so I am going to try a different browser before I throw the thing!

Oh and it has no USB port only a micro SD

Galaxy tab 10 is a good, cheaper alternative to the iPad- Op Sys is a little clunky in comparison but better than many of the rest

Try the Asus t100 (transformer) it's a tablet with a proper keyboard

Just bought 2 on Friday

One for my daughter for college and 1 for my lad for Christmas

There a full version of Windows not a cut down version and if you like the nexus, Asus make the nexus for Google

Does anyone use a windows touch device? There so poor, crap selection of apps, android devices are so popular there google store is good just some compatibility issues

I have a Nexus 7, it's very good, but if I could afford it I'd have an ipad mini. A friend has the Kindle Fire, I've used it and really didn't like it, it felt clunky.

I have to use Windows at work- its the most annoying, frustrating, 'why use one click when 3 menus and 27 clicks with 2 key combinations can do the same thing' shite operating system I have the misfortune to be stuck with OSX isn't perfect but its so much more user friendly

Tesco hudls are now just £99.....work perfectly well. It depends what you want it for.....and just in the 12 month warranty we had a problem with it. tesco sent a replacement the next day. No problems.

I would suggest that if you want to store them on the device then go 16. If just streaming movies then 8 will be fine.

Some apps are huge so depending on what sort of apps she will want will determine your size needs

For streaming yes, but if downloading once you get apps on and a few games you won't have much space for films. Some memory is nicked by the operating system.

Well I hate all things apple as I don't find them at all user friendly. Samsung devices in my opinion are better as well as easier to use and cheaper.

But like someone else says it does depend on your needs I guess.

Look at the Asus Memo which has 16gb (and you can even get it in pink if you want)- it can also be upgraded by 32gb i think, with a cheap micro sd card- more than enough storage and £99 in various places (you can also get the Asus Iconia with 32gb for the same price at Argos)

I've got the Apple iPad. It does pretty well what I want and what I expect. It has been secure.

Tried an Android tablet a couple of times - it seemed a bit clunky and underpowered.

I read one comment above that you can only do half the things on an iPad that you can do on an android tablet. I wonder what they are? Evidently I don't need to do that sort of thing.

I use the surface pro it is able to run the software I need L has the iPad we are going to be on a long flight soon so I copied lots of films to a 64gb sd card plugged it into the surface pro as the d: drive, told L where the files are but she can't put them on th iPad no space, and no expansion option.

Hehe you haven't lived sir, I used to have apple stuff but I found it very boring and it was very annoying when multitasking. Android copy and paste is spectacular, jumping from app to app is swift and easy, you can still download flash, if you are into social networks then sharing content is a breeze, widgets!, you can download apps straight off the browser, bluetooth file sharing is simple and you can browse your file directory to use zip and rar extension files. Have you no need of any of those?

Key difference that bugs me is MOST tablets except Apple ones take an SD card, so when we are on a long flight I will be watching a choice of movies on the 64Gb SD micro card whist my wife will be complaining about a full memory on her iPad.
