Has anyone been watching commando school on channel 4?

Nottinghamshire

It was a little tough on that solider who passed three out of four courses. They gave him a second chance 600 metres from finishing he dropped to the floor he tried several times to get up. It later came to light he had broken his leg somewhere along the nine miles yet he carried on in pain (even his trainers stated there was something wrong long before he dropped). I think they should have passed him not make him repeat all four courses with another group.

Very harsh but I guess they can't be seen to bend the rules for anyone as it could be seen as favouritism. They are pass or fail tests, he failed and personally, knowing a lot of army guys and working with an ex marine, they probably wouldn't want to be passed that way anyway.

I watched it too and one of my close friends is a Royal Marine and is an instructor.

It might seem cruel and i wouldnt last 30 seconds!

But we have to remember what they are being trained for! The situations they might find themselves in a warzone .... the enemy wont be thinking about what is fair!

They would do them no favours at all if they were lenient on them.

The standard has to be maintained for their own sake! It might save their life one day!

Ive watched alot of it but it is now clashing with Big Brother - Celebrity version which I have followed instead. Their assessments are strict but it does allow instructors to observe all on an equal basis, and allows them insight into how the guys would act in challenging situations - broken legs could well happen, but overall fitness has to be proven as good enough. Sounds like the lad has more than it takes, so hope he gets what he wants.

this..

I failed the 'warm up' which in my Corps was the complete course before you were allowed to take the all arms in 80 due to a knee injury which I tried to hide for the 30 miler..

albeit I still had about 8 to go but as said you do the lot or the lid wouldn't be the same..

It is rough but those are the rules and you have to be fair to all.

Most don't do such extreme training though its a single figure percentage that do. The majority of our armed forces training is far less extreme.

I saw about 10 min and thought it was rubbish, all made up for TV.

As ex forces training is a lot different, a lot stricter more disciplined personally it's pretty weak show!

Not any more it isn't they have to be compassionate in training after all the issues with suicides over the last few years.

Government crackdown its gone the other way and even without the cameras filming its not much harsher and they are talking about letting women train for front line next.

Suffolk

Watched it all, the NCOs are as funny as the recruits.

They seem to say it as it is, good programme.

The geezer that done the rope test on Monday had me in stitches, 2 years he's been trying, and when he said I'll take punishment coz he took his hand off the rope was outstandingly funny.

Fair play to all of them, in fact fair play and RESPECT to all our soldiers, sailors, airmen etc

God speed to you all

Yeah I've been watching.

That guy who did the tarzan thing was lucky. Only just did it.

I'd have not lasted 5 mins on the course. Credit where it's due, these guys are tough.

Had a friend who trained like mad got too the last half mile of the 30 over dartmoor and broke his foot ? They wouldn't let him hobble on and said dont worry you can just do it again when your better ? He didn't !!

Another did no training and flew all the tests ? He's now training all arms recruits to take the course ?

Sometimes life's a bitch !! Lol

I know I'm not everyone's cup of tea and no oil painting but I honestly couldn't see any talent on there.
