Titz Towers, North Notts

What lesser known gems do you know of?

Fantastic places to eat, hidden beaches, books no one has heard of, think things that are fantastic, but woefully unknown, like Popeye's and Libs pics being underfabbed.

Mine are Caimh McDonnell a brilliant comedian who is one of the funniest peeps I've ever seen (Adam Staunton can also come under this heading) and the second hand bookshop in Alnwick's old train station.

What would be your hidden gems?

I'm not sure if its a hidden gem as I know its big in the states, but I recently read "Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes and it blew my mind. Im quite big scifi/fantasy reader and I'd never heard of it. Awesome book.

"El Cotillo in Fuerteventura. My favourite place on earth "

Not so much hidden as not well known or publicised except by those who have been.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I heard a lot of hidden gems at the festival this weekend. I am not one for seeing new bands but some were awesome. John Otway was very good.

And I recommend Laos as a cheaper, quieter alternative to Thailand.

southend

A little coffee shop in Southend called Utopia. Has childrens toys and board games to play with. Books to read on every table and he'll make your coffee however you want it at no extra cost. The atmosphere, food and coffee are awesome!

Wish it was the Algarve! Aberdeenshire

A beach I have know since a young girl called 'Killycan' near Pennan, both utterly breath taking and a hidden gem.

Bristol

Far too many musical hidden gems to mention. I have an old school local pub that's one but I'm not prepared to share its name or location! We're talking an actual garden for a beer garden, a pub dog, horse brasses, pickled eggs and flumps behind the bar, regulars who pop behind it to serve each other when the landlady's out having a fag and the landlady's 90+ mother who has her own seat in the corner and has had all her drinks bought for her for 30 of those years. Oh and The Hunterian Museum in London. And The Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire.
