near derby.

A job search site? I was made redundant in July, had a nice few weeks off but now need to get a new job. I've signed on with the agencies for the type of job I had before, but wondered have you used any of the other job sites? Any recommendations? How have you got a new job? Thank you in advance for any advice!

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

I used them, there is a government one, and others that are very well advertised on the telly.

The best class of jobs I found was actually in the local paper job section, and my job was found in the local paper and through the voluntary work I was doing.

Its a horrible feeling to be out of work, I hope you find something soon

Most job sites are crap but universal jobmatch is the easiest to use, I've found. It's tedious searching for jobs though. Good luck x

good luck in your search.

my experience is they are like 'human' estate agents, they are very interested in you if they can place you into a selection process ( can't balme them really as that is how they are paid bonuses ) but it can be demoralising if they are all over you, you get excited and then they drop you without any real sensitivity the second there may be no cash for them.

but they can work for you and help get a role.

I have used a specialist site because the roles I am looking for don't appear on mass job sites.

Depending on what you are looking for consider looking to your existing networks.

Most job search websites merely collate the jobs advertised in the on line versions of the local press. You will see a lot of false ads and non jobs before you see anything suitable. Start very specific search criteria first then widen out. Bear in mind specific sites for specific sectors. New scientist etc.

Thanks everyone. I'm registered with the specific agencies for my field of work, was just thinking of widening my options. The NHS sites would be worth a look though, that's a good idea. Starting to feel a bit down about it now, everyone I know works full time! Might try some volunteering...

Do volunteer to keep busy and keep your hand in. But looking for a job is a full time activity so treat it the same as going to work. It is your job for now.

Indeed is a good online site. They send daily jobs to your email. I've applied for many from this site. Another one is CV-Library and Reed & Co. Gumtree is suppose to be a good site but I haven't tried it as I get plenty for the others.

NHS even will offer training with some jobs so opens new things up to people. Hope you find a job you really like. xx Good luck.

I'd agree with 'Indeed' - I've referred many to it and it's as good a search site as they come.

Depending on your circumstances it can also be well worth using Linkdin as many companies and recruiters search here. It's a great way to get noticed and if you work in a specific field can result in approaches even when you're not actively looking!

You could always try the twitter jobsite too

Btw its been proven that the Universal jobsite is flawed with lots of the jobs advertised not existing.

I have an app called jobaware that has served me well... I advertised my old job on Gumtree and had almost 200 responses. Was cheap to advertise job too......

I temp contract mostly now and prefer it....some long, some short. Been with same agent for over a year now. Would say if an agent knows they have a good contact, they will generally be first port of call.

A bit of freedom can be liberating.

I like indeed - it seems to have most of the adverts from other jobsite all under one roof.

I've never found LinkedIn of any use at all, but other friends have found it useful.

I'm not a fan of recruiters and if you are putting your mobile on the internet, join the TPS or you will be innundated with PPI and other crappy sales calls.

A lot of vacancies are filled before they are even advertised, unfortunately this is not a problem that is unique to Universal Jobmatch

We wary of agency work advertised on universal jobsearch. They pay the jobcentre to advertise fake jobs just to get you on their books.

There's quite a few good agencies, I'd literally use many, and register with local agencies, keep an eye on local media and job centre too.

Volunteering is great for experience and / or keeping you busy. Search local councils too, they sometimes assist job seekers as well as highlight their own vacancies etc.

Depending on your speciality / preference for industry you could set up email alerts from places like nhsjobs, and most of the newspaper job sections too I think.

Be sure to sell yourself, most people have way more qualities than they first think!

The bigger your net the more chance of catching something.......... use all of the big job search sites.

I'd also suggest going to the website of your local paper... they will likely have their own job search site.
