I have an app called 'Photofolders' that let's you lock the folders with a password so only you can get into it.

dont panicc, you should put them in a seperate file and set a password for that file only, could also click depending on the phone to remote delete the whole sim and memory card phone if you lose to

Does that keep the folder password protected even if they are on a microSD (and inserted into something else)?

I use hide it pro for android. It's an app which you can set a pass code and actually works as an audio management app.
