I have the most rude, noisy and down right ignorant neighbour, other half works in a pub and quite often dosent get in till early hours (neighbour knows this), yet he feels the need to demolish sheds, cut up slabs and generally make a noise at 8am, he is the type to wait till I have a line of washing out then start a fire/BBQ :-

He can see into my garden and when I get it in he says shit like 'oh sorry didn't see' oh right washing dosent blow about in the wind !

I have a neighbour like that, he thought that at 2am he would have his mate round and help him fit a new back kitchen window and door, we called the police as he was using a power drill at that hour, I had a massive argument with him about it, the brainless feck, dunno why he thought it was a good idea to do something like that in the early hours, anyway, since then, he's been very quiet, he did also set fires in the back garden on beautiful sunny days, I would put the hose over the fence and put it out. People like that care for no one but themselves, and don't seem to care what others say.

I think 8 isn't reasonable at all ! The neighbour in the other side is a nurse that works shifts too, I don't think a little common courtesy is too much to ask for nowadays ? I wouldn't start outside work at that time because I'd like to think of my neighbours being disturbed

I know it's annoying but 8am isn't an unreasonable hour to be up and about in your own garden.

The trouble is once you have an issue with a neighbour everything they do becomes annoying to you.

I work nights every week an it's by far the way I see it. Why should anyone change there day for me

I agree with the 8am thing, i start work at 8am and if i have stuff to do around the house/garden, then i am generally wired to start around that time. Its not an unreasonable time imo to be diy etc.

The guy may want to get his work done early so he can build his fire for the afternoon!

8am is fine builders don't generally start till that time really. But he should let you know about fires/bbq it's the decent thing to do. I let all my neighbours know to bring there washing in. ( once dry of course)

I've lived next door to 'neighbours from hell' ( & they were probably tame compared to others! ) so what you're describing doesn't sound that bad.

For you though it is & you need to work out a solution ~ can u maybe move bedrooms when OH is on nights, would that work?

No matter what time of day it is there is a chance it will piss someone off. Leave it to the afternoon and you might still have people in bed who've worked a full night shift, or babies /toddlers who've been put down for an afternoon nap.

In situations like this, things annoy us because we want them to annoy us. You OP have developed the mind-set that your neighbour is doing stuff just to wind you up... and thus you get yourself wound up.

Your neighbour isn't doing anything out of the ordinary... but you are choosing to make it an issue.... which in turn only brings you down, diminishing your quality of life and stressing you out.

The sooner YOU learn to change YOUR mind-set, the sooner you won't see your neighbour as being one from hell.... and you may just have a happier life.

8am is not too early for work to start, 5am is not too late for a party to end.

Difference is if it is every day as opposed to odd occasions. DIY on a bank holiday weekend is the norm these days.

I'd be pissed off if they did that at 8am on the weekend. 9/10am is fine but noisy work at 8am is taking the piss. Same principal in the evenings... if it's after 10pm shut the fuck up with your DIY.

but that is an unreasonable hour, in fact i am sure it beaches noise pollution regulations and is quite petty of you

Could never understand why my friends paid so much for a house with a decent post code and struggled with mortgage payments. Untill I had bad neighbours, not always council houses but most are. We now have a 4 class society, upper middle working scum

As previous people have said, what your neighbour is doing isn't that bad compared to some. Although I can understand how annoying and obnoxious some neighbours are. Have you tried going around and asking him if he could start a little later or warn you when he's having a BBQ?

Have the neighbour we have: an obnoxious so and so across the road from us, who parks large vehicles opposite our drive. This causes a hazard for us emerging, as we have blindspots which we are unable to move. I have tried explaining this to him civilly, but was met with aggression and accusations. I'm now thinking of applying for a mirror to go on the telegraph pole which is located in his front garden.

I believe that kicking up a shindy with neighbours is a zero sum game. You can always find something to do to piss them off, but they then return this with some interest.

I like my neighbours and haven't had any problems with them and them with I. In return, I take their bins out and back in when they are on holiday, bounce prowlers, they keep an eye on my property and everything seems fine. The odd time someone has had loud music on, or put a shelf up when I've been having a nod, I've just let them crack on with it.

I (Mr) do landscaping and we would start as early as 7am. We never had a problem with the neighbours on jobs regarding noise but burning stuff was usually a no no during the warmer months but in the winter nobody seemed to care.

We are lucky to have good neighbours at the moment.

You want my neighbough. Had to call an ambulance a few weeks ago out to my mum. There wasn't anywhere to park other than across her driveway. Because she couldnt get her drive she came hammering on the door demanding them to move it. Because the ambulance crew was working on mum and couldnt move it she rang the police saying someone obstructing her driveway. Haha it backfired on her bigtime

You might see it as inconsiderate but your neighbour is well within their rights to do what they are doing. - Most workmen start at 8am as that is legally when noisy work can commence.

If you want to swap, you can have my Mum's neighbours. They sleep all day and spend all night screaming at each other, slamming doors and having commotions (None of them work, it's just the routine they've fallen into). - The son is a drug dealer so you get all sorts there throughout the night, not to mention police raids, ect but yet one time my father-in-law cut the grass in the back garden at 9am on a Saturday just before going to work and the woman next door had a Bitch fit!

Unfortunately there will never be a right time for everyone, but people's lives and routines cant stop just because your other half works late.

Maybe invest in some ear plugs.

No he is doing things on purpose, he told the kids next door to him to 'fuck off and play down ur own end'

He reported another to environmental health as they had flies in their garden, and yes it's all true

No the kids were going up and down the private lane outside our row of cottages that we all pay to have to park our cars on.

You are mad if u think that calling environmental health on somebody for having flies in their garden is on, as for my oh coming in and being considerate with noise etc yes he is, we don't have a car so no engine noise or doors slamming, if u think my neighbour isn't that bad why do u insist on commenting

cos i can, cos he isnt here to put his side of the argument across, cos i want to, cos i am taking a break from my knitting, cos i really dont think 8am is an unreasonable hour for someone to be doing stuff in their garden, cos if you think thats a neighbour from hell you really have got an easy life as some posts on here show.......lots of reasons really.

as for the flies, i guess it depends on how many there are and what is attracting them to the garden doesnt it?

Flies are everywhere, is summer, I bet u have flies in ur garden/area should u be reported too ? No and that was my point in the beginning, it's petty

I have never said I'm hard done by and have sympathy for those with worse neighbours but in MY OPINION he is a neighbour from hell

Im not sure if you have the neighbour from hell however you are not a happy bunny that is obvious and i am in no position to agree or disagree with your posts as what you are posting is personal to you and its your perception of the situation your in i just hope it resolves itself for all parties concerned.

Have you tried walking round with nothing on when you peg your washing out then he may be to busy to light up the bbq or a fire because he will be playing with himself

we have the new tram build right on our doorstep - 8 am is when they start- they have been testing overnight - a few times the trambuild staff have been noisy -unnecessarily so and have had to put in official complaints - add into this a neighbour with a dog that barks constantly (also sent in complaint to council for this ) - im an insomniac too - id swap your home for mine the last couple of years

Sounds like our bin men.... found ours 5 houses down this week it's got our number on it!

Takes 5 secs to knock on a neighbours door and say we are having a BBQ i see you have washing out. We do it with ours.

The last thing you want is to have to re do washing when it's spent all day drying

we actually waited nearly an hour for our new neighbours to get home and we warned them that we were going to light the BBQ and they thanked us and took the washing in..

Last week - they decided to have a BBQ and Didn't warn us at all.. Even though we were in..
