"bloody silly idea, they may not think its so funny when someone has a heart attack."

I really don't see how having cold water poured on you can cause a heart attack to a healthy person

It can do, not everyone knows if they are healthy or not anyway.

My husband politely declined on medical grounds. We will however donate when funds allow

You mean hijacked it. There's plenty of awareness regarding Macmillan and the excellent work they do so why hijack the ALS/MND campaign, something people know very little about.

Brilliant... Lots of messages and only two actually name the charity.

ALS is a tragically horrible disorder and this "stupid" ice bucket challenge has raised millions of much needed money so far.

doing a challenge for motor neurone disease but raising money for a cancer charity....ummmmmmm me thinks the people doing it are not doing it for the cause but to look cool (hehe) in front of their mates...i bet if you asked 100 people why they did it they wouldn't be able to tell you what cause they were doing it for!

Everyone should watch this:

http://youtu.be/m4RT-J_20aI

Jason Becker realeased it late yesterday. Yes had ALS for the past 25yrs and is one of the longest surviving sufferers.

If you don't know who he's is have a Google or Wikipedia search. He's truly inspiring....

I think it's great !

If someone enjoyed themselves and made others laughed doing it, up to them if they donate or not. Like dress down day at work , some people always get away without giving their £1 every week. Their choice! It's not mandatory. A percentage will donate though which is better than zilch!

Watch the news - there's lots of serious, horrible stuff going on - a bit of light relief is what makes the world a better place.

Motor Neurone is a horrid illness and to my mind, raising more awareness has to be a good thing however it's done.

You cant waste water as all the water we have is on this earth, very well said Evie and some posters should really give their heads a wobble as being against charity events and just guessing that people do not donate,I have been nominated and will be doing it and i hope all you doubters hang your sorry heads in shame and carry on sitting moaning and doing nothing and labeling people chavs

Jesus christ, what a bunch of moaning, greetin' faced fuckers you lot are! It's just a bit of fun and gets everyone joining in!

Yeah, we've both done it and had a right good laugh doing it. We both donated to charity and posted the 'thank you' texts on our FB profiles. The challenge has raised incredible sums for the few charities involved, far more than any 'traditional' event so you can moan all you like but you just come across as antiquated and bitter.

It's got nothing to do with 'look at me'. Social media and video is being used more and more to raise awareness of different charities and they're just another way of encouraging groups of people to do something good. In the past it's been coffee mornings, half marathons etc and this is just something different.

I really can't understand what people are moaning about.

Can't you see what it makes you look like ? If you can't I'll give you a clue. Miserable cunts.

It's easy to ignore.

No one is forcing you to do anything you don't to.

It's not compulsory to watch.

It's not compulsory to do.

It's not compulsory to donate.

To borrow a phrase.

My old workplace all did it, about 20 of them all nominated each other.

Yeah, I am sick of seeing it on FaceBook, but everyone of them donated to Macmillan.

As others have said, I don't have to watch them, but some are a giggle. Especially the cute one who joined the team after I left and did it in a white t-shirt with no bra on!!

Hope you have both donated then?? Lol

All fund raising is a look at me and how generous I an event. I'm running 10k for samaritans next month and am promoting that fact where I can to generate sponsorship....am i a bad person because of if?

For the record, the only thing I'm moaning about is the macmillan hijack! To be honest it's put me off them as a charity and.I'd think twice to giving directly to them now.

It reminds me of Movember. Hardly anyone I know donated to the cause directly as they assumed that being sponsored and growing a tache was enough.

If I WANT to donate to a charity I will do it; And I won't be TOLD that I have to do something ridiculous or I'm a heartless cunt.

Why not have fun while raising funds for charity? . I would prefer to see it going to MND or parkinsons. I buy raffle tickets for a local cancer charity.

Sudden vaso constriction from the peripheral blood vessels due to a sudden cold immersion increases blood flow and therefore blood pressure to the myocardium and cerebral areas. In a person who has an unknown/un diagnosed weak heart or weak cerebral blood vessels this 'could' prove catastrophic. ok?

I done Tough Mudder last year and I can you that jumping into a skip of ice water was the hardest challenge....I wouldn't do it again because of that. You get total brain freeze and shock and you do not know where you are.

So pouring a bucket of ice water over myself will be child's play and to a great cause too.

I've just been nominated

"It's a big "oh look at me! I've given to charity" thing.

Just give the money, be thankful that you don't need it yourself & stop showing off."

Last year the ALS charity in the US only raised $2.4million. Since this whole ice bucket challenge has started it's raised over £40 million.

You may think it's showing off but it's raised a fuck ton of awareness and money for an often overlooked disease that can affect any one of us and our children. Stop being a miserable bugger and show some support for those who've taken part...

There are people in the worlds who have nothing but sewage tainted water and then you have people WASTING WATER on Ice bucket challenges

Boils my piss

can you waste water? does it not just go back into the water table considering most are done in peoples gardens? Does our water table affect the water table of other countries?

It's the principal....regardless of the watertable.....all water we use from our taps needs treating....and ice....costs money and energy

Just donate the money if it matters to you"

Love being called a miserable cunt

I have nothing against charity at all but the point I was making was that lots of purple are doing it and not donating money to charity

The other point was wasting water.....yes I have a bath....I don't soaked though, I put the little kids into the bath while it's still warm, then use the water to flush the toilet and wash the car....I don't have a garden to water either so no sprinkler.....my boyfriend collects rainwater to flush the toilet too.....

MND could be very relevant as the father of my childrens grandmother had it and eventually died.....not sure of how it is passed on etc and need top look into it more ....any awareness vote little known illnesses is always welcome!

Just think there could be better less wasteful ways.....

Mainly because the people who donate have put up the "thank you" message they received from the charity!

If someone is taking the time to do the challenge, surely the tiny bit of effort it takes to copy the message is easy enough?

I do enjoy the bitchy snipy comments from voicing my thoughts and opinions.

people know very little about.watch the film'I am breathing' you will soon donate to als/mnd charities. It is the most touching, poignant, funny and amazing thing you will see"

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

It's turned into a PR exercise for celebrities.

I understood that they were being asked to either donate or get the bucket.

Only about £6m has been raised when much more could have been given by fame hungry celebs.

they were being asked to donate and do the challenge but if they didn't do the challenge they HAD to donate $100 (originally in America), that's how i understood it, of course no one - celeb or otherwise - has disclosed how much they have donated.

It was also not just about raising money but raising the profile of ALS and MND charities which are often over shadowed by larger charities. Something that has been proven by the MacMillan hijack.

There isn't a water shortage this year and what is dumped over heads won't even be 1% of what is wasted through leaking pipes the water authorities can't be bothered to fix.

You are being silly now and just out for a fight"

why am i being silly? you were the one who was claiming it was wasting water, i cant see how it is. Not a fight, just a difference of opinion.

Trust me it would take a lot more than one bucket of cold water to cause an issue with vaso constriction to lead to a heart attack! Of you heart were that dodgy you wouldn't be swinging! Baaa bloom in humbug.... Its a bit of fun and a cool way to raise money for a good cause xx

"I refuse on the grounds that thousands upon thoudands of gallons of water are being wasted. There are other ways to raise awearness and funds without wasting valubale resources

how is it being wasted? theres tos of the stuf falling out of the sky right now and all the challenges i have seen have been done in the garden so its going back in the system. This argument has come up a few times and its a silly one!

Even if we didn't chuck buckets of water over ourselves the worlds water problems wouldn't be solved because out water table has nothing to do with other countries!!

Take a stand by all means but use a solid argument. How many water charitites do yo donate to if its a subject so close to your heart?

I don't think it at all silly. How many summers go by where we have water crisis and bans and having to limit what we use. I never mentioned wirld problems with water and I regularly donate and raise money for 5 charities without wasting any of our natural resources. Not difficult really and no need to attack me personally

There isn't a water shortage this year and what is dumped over heads won't even be 1% of what is wasted through leaking pipes the water authorities can't be bothered to fix."

And many out of

Sight underground etc that they don,t

Know about.

"It's turned into a PR exercise for celebrities.

I understood that they were being asked to either donate or get the bucket.

Only about £6m has been raised when much more could have been given by fame hungry celebs. "

$80 million so far in America alone.

I am sooooo happy that 2wheels has received a nomination (because we will donate to the charity, not because I get to throw a bucket of ice cold water at him ).

Anything that raises awareness of the cause can only be a good thing. When celebrities took part and didn't explain what it was for or how to donate, I was disappointed as it was a wasted opportunity.

do it!!

I'm doing mine after work, my son is looking forward to it immensely..

As long as people who do it donate in my mind anything that highlights the needs of others & raises money is all good.

£6m compared to just over £1m at the same time last year in the UK. The figure in the US is rapidly approaching $100m compared to just $2.4 last year.

PR exercise or not it's raised a fuck load of money and awareness for a horrific disease.

I've just been nominated, much to the glee of my best friends!

I'll do it and donate to both charities. My friends father has MND & I have a close affinity to Macmillan. Raising awareness and funds can only be a good thing.

My father-in-law died from MND 10 years ago. It was heart rending watching him rapidly deteriorate from a heatlthy, intelligent and wickedly funny gentleman into a sickly, emaciated intelligent man desperately frustrated that the only thing he could do was grunt, in his final days. Having lost all movement and powers of speech. The pain in his eyes was heartbreaking. I love the way this challenge has engaged my son and his friends and other friends and acquaintances in raising money for this charity. I'll be getting doused and nominating today and of course donating. Both charities are very important to me but in the case of ALS, it needs awareness to be raised. This challenge is doing a bloody good job

OMG i think ive heard everything now ( from pr stunts to waste of natural resources ) and cant believe anyone would post negatively on this .....3 charities have benefited hugely from this harmless craze ...yes i have done it in fact every member of my family has now done it and we all donated to macmillan ..why macmillan and not mnd or als ..simply because macmillan has been needed within our family lately ...it doesnt really matter which charity you support they are all worthwhile and thankfully reaping the benefits ...for all you negative people out there .....seriously get a life ..you dont need to be down on those that do it an no-one is forcing you to join in

have you checked the 'leakage' info for your local water provider..

compared to several thousand people doing this 'challenge' on a daily basis the actual water loss is probably far far higher..

a drop in the ocean..
