Just got this phone and for the life of me can't find how to get alerts when I receive a text. I have googled, youtubed, etc but to no avail. I have adjusted the volume button on the phone but it makes no difference. Aaaaaaaaaargh please help thank you.

Is it a windows phone? On my Nokia it's on messaging-settings. Swipe to apps from home screen. Messaging then settings and switch them on or off

Have you tried your ringtones and sound settings? There are boxes you can tick to play a sound for all other notifications

I've gone into the most obvious place called ringtones and sounds. I have vibrate off, ringtone selected and a tone for reminders. It doesn't work with all this!!

Does it make a sound when you get a phone call or is there no alert sounds at all

Yes it rings okay, just nothing when I get a text. Wondering if there isn't one lol as it's quite a new phone with Windows 8.1 maybe it's the new design !!!

The above was a copy/paste from a support website for the Lumia 635.

I will not post links in the forums any more - however if you wish to see the site, enter 'lumia 635 test alert sound settings' into Google and its the second result (the T mobile Support site).

Have you set up Cortana, the voice assistant? It would have been good if you could have asked her, and she'd helped you sort it. The Lumias have brilliant sat nav in them, complete with traffic monitoring and auto route change. I think you have bought a great phone - wise choice

Thank you, I do have Cortana but have managed to find the alerts now. I had been in notifications before but totally missed the messaging one (duh)! I absolutely love the phone and have been messing about with it forever lol.

Glad you have your alerts sorted. From a little use of that phone it seems fantastic - and incredible value for money.

Thanks. Apart from the alerts it's an amazing phone. I thought I was always going to be a Samsung lover until this came along. And you're right it is incredible value for money, although mine is on contract.
