Why do a fair amount of women put a disclaimer on their profiles saying they wish not to meet bi men?

Well this is just a wild stab in the dark but could it be:

Because they don't want to meet bi-sexual men?

Personal choice, ignorance, get fed up discussing interior design, take your pick. Personally I just move on to the next profile that is a possibility, rather than wonder why someone doesn't want to meet

"Why do a fair amount of women put a disclaimer on their profiles saying they wish not to meet bi men?"

There were 73,659 cases of HIV in the UK in 2012; 43% per cent of them gay or bisexual men, which represents a rise of 58% over the past 10 years.

If I was a woman, I might be inclined to reduce my risk of contracting an incurable disease by sticking with men who do not have sex with men.

Just sayin'.

Errrrrrrrm, I don't pretend to be some sort of mathematician or anything but if 43% are gay or bi, doesn't that mean that 57% are straight? In which case.................. damn, my calculator batteries are flat!!

"

So what are the stats for lesbians and bi women apart from the obvious body parts what difference does it make if your bi or not"

The remaining 57% represents men who do not have sex with men, and all females.

42% of all HIV diagnoses are in the Greater London area but, over the last 10 years, there have been significant increases in the East of England, the West Midlands and the North East.

The largest groups with HIV infection are men who have sex with men and individuals who have migrated from regions where HIV is common e.g. sub-Saharan Africa.

A study in 16 smaller American cities (i.e. away from cetres such as San Franscisco, Los Angeles and New York) of lesbians and bi-sexual women revealed that almost 17% of bisexual women and 0.5% of lesbians reported having had unprotected vaginal or anal sex with a male during the two months prior to the survey.

Almost 10 percent of bi-sexual women and 8.8% of lesbians in the study reported a history of injection drug use.

Among those women who said they had been tested, 1.4% reported they were infected with HIV.

The study concluded that:

1 Self-identified sexual orientation (bi-sexual /gay) was highly consistent with recent sexual behaviour.

2 HIV risk related to sexual behaviour was concentrated among self-identified bisexual women rather than gay women.

3 The prevalence of injection drug use was substantial among both bi-sexual and gay women.

Central

2 things - supply and demand and preferences. Women have an enormous amount of choice, compared to men generally here. They are thus very able to engage their preferences without being bereft of action.

I disagree as I'm just stating the facts together with my own opinion in response to the question raised by the OP.

Ignorance (synonyms): incomprehension of, unawareness of, unconsciousness of, unfamiliarity with, inexperience with, lack of knowledge about, lack of information about; informal cluelessness about, lack of knowledge, lack of education, un-enlightenment, illiteracy,

lack of intelligence, stupidity, foolishness, idiocy.

Do let me know if you manage individuals with HIV/AIDS; we could swap notes.

Yes, but if you don't test then you have no idea about what is going on in the general population.

It's the same with statistics as you are, essentially, attempting to determine if an effect is due to chance or not; selection of the statistical tests applied to the data collected is important but generally a test is not considered statistically significant unless the results were to be seen in less than 5% or, more significantly, less than 1% of similar evaluations i.e. unlikely to be due to chance.

Medical statistics are generally believable as they are subject to peer-re_iew before being published and medical professionals don't use them in the same way as politicians.

As to testing; one of the highest risk factors in sexually transmitted infections is the number of sexual partners; regular testing might be appropriate, especially if an individual has other risk factors.

It is, as it's much faster than sending away for papers.

The HIV information came from the Health Protection Agency and the information on the study of bi-sexual women / gay women from PubMed.

There are some behaviours some people simply do not like. They do not wish to have sex with people they know to engage in those behaviours, whether they do them in their presence or not.

Is that really so difficult to understand?

As I said, those statistics only refer to the people that get tested. Therefore they can't be trusted with any accuracy as not everyone gets tested. Percentages mean nothing.

The background info I kind of agree with. 'Perhaps' the person with more sexual partners is more at risk. However it only takes sex with ONE infected partner .......

What the poster forgets to add that he is in the age group that saw a doubling of people being diagnosed as being HIV positive over the last ten years. This has been put down to the fact that many people in his age range felt it couldn't happen to them. Well it is.

Should women sleep with him?

He ignores the fact that 12 of the last 14 year more people have caught hiv through heterosexual sex than any other route be that igay sex or injecting drugs etc

Should women sleep with him?

He ignores the fact that most people being diagnosed are white.

So should women sleep with him?

Look at it that way and he's in a pretty high risk category...

Needless to say it is easy to argue that more gay/bi men are found to be positive because of proactive testing and funding of programmes to ensure they get tested.

Medical experts will tell you it is not people who are known to be hiv positive, who are on medication and who are undetectable that are the risk here.

It is the people who don't get tested, don't have safe sex and are hiv positive without them knowing that are the risk.

As I said initially lots of those people are over fifty, heterosexual, white and male and think it couldn't happen to them...

Just sayin.
