Hi fab-forumsters

So it's a glorious looking day in that London but as it's bank holiday weekend there seems to be obligatory BBQs going on.

So what's the etiquette when attending a BBQ in terms if taking offerings, do you, don't you, is it just wine/beer or do you you stretch into foodstuffs!?

I seem to be overthinking this

If you're taking food then either ask what they would like you to bring (ie meat, salad, coleslaw, chips n dips) or take something that, if it doesn't fit into what they've planned, that they can enjoy another time like a cake.

Homemade cakes are always welcome.

Hostess gifts are intended to be a gift to the hosts not something to consume while you're there.

What about flowers?

Herts

Phone them and ask. We'll always take alcohol anyway but everyone also seems to love Amy's potato salad and it's what we always get asked to bring.

See if they are short of desserts or if you can contribute to rolls, meat, ect.

I find it very difficult to go to a BBQ without eventually doing some cooking. Man. Fire. Good.

Family bbqs the host provides food and soft drinks. Anything alcoholic you take yourself to my in laws. To my own family alcohol is usually provided but bring anything foodwise you think people will enjoy. E.g home made cakes and desserts or one the odd occasion I take a whole, deboned, marinated leg of lamb

Great shout's, thanks guys.

I asked and they weren't in need of anything, sometimes it's good to be given direction! I used to make different flavours if big fat breadsticks and dinky madeleines but I'm not sure if I want to be known as the breadsticks and madeleines guy!

I like the idea of taking something for them to have when everyone has buggered off, might take a cake for them and wine and beer for the sharing table.

The breadsticks and madeleines guy sounds an excellent thing to be known as!
