Noisy neighbours

We live next door to a lovely quiet lady and her teenage daughter, now the daughter isn't so quiet and thinks nothing of banging about and having long and loud telephone convos with her mates till gone 2am in the morning, we have to be up at 4.30 ( Luke ) and myself at 6am for work!

I have been round once a few weeks back and asked very politely to keep the noise levels down after midnight, this seems to have gone in one ear and out the other!

Last night I could have easily gone round there to throw the bloody phone or whatever it is out of the window but resorted to knocking on the wall!!

So do I go round again? Or maybe post a letter through the door?

We paid a few visits to my neighbours. It took quite a stern talking to and the offer of distributing a sound system across the green to have any effect

maybe speak calmly though with an explanation, ranting seems to fall on deaf ears.

the alternative is to make loads of noise when you get up in the morning while shes still sleeping then say, you be quieter at night and we will be quieter in the mornings

East Sussex

it's difficult isn't it. We have problems with a woman nearby and have repeatedly asked her to stop the noise nuisance, she stops for a bit then starts up again

I'm not a ranty person so I will be calm when I speak to her, I'm just not calm at 2am in the morning lol!

then that leaves the "crashing around early morning" and waking her up option

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

Contact your local authority. I had a problem with my neighbour leaving a barking dog outside. Knocking on I found the neighbour had gone out leaving the obviously distressed animal outside.

Since this was very early on a Sunday morning, and which went on till gone lunch, I was seriously pissed off.

Got on to the website for the council and emailed the problem.

They got back to me the next day (Monday) saying they would write to the neighbour requesting they stop. They also asked me to keep a diary if the noise continued.

I've had no trouble since.

If your neighbour is approachable go round. I wouldn't send a letter.. Makes you look 'scared' to face them.

Try and keep things as amicable as you can..

If you have noisy sex the girl may get the picture that noise travels..

Have you thought about changing your username as it doesn't seem quite appropriate.

The best solution would be to bang on the door at 4am or when you get up till they answer the door and tell them then. There is nothing disturbing someone else to make them realise how annoying it can be.

Edinburgh

Go back round again. I had the problem with my upstairs neighbour who's partially deaf. She was quite annoyed saying it wasn't her fault she was deaf. I said that I agreed totally but that it wasn't my fault either. I could have watched my TV with the volume off and heard it crystal clear from upstairs.

I had to go back again and asked if they'd like to come down and listen from my place. Eventually they bought wireless headphones. Everyone's a winner... I suspect her boyfriend was glad too.

Worth dealing with it yourself, or at least attempting to. Call their landlord or local Council if nothing changes but tell them that's your intention before you do it. No nasty surprises and they won't be shocked when they get a visit. However it may be enough to change their ways.

Good luck

I didn't see this till now. There's some noisy buggers round here too including one guy who goes back and forth on his incredibly loud motorbikes at all hours!

Hope they were understanding and keep it down for you. Keep a record of any noise and times etc, that's what the council will tell you to do x

If you've asked politely and they're still doing it - which sounds the case. I'd ring your Local Authority. Environmental Health dept. Like others have said - diary sheets is good as evidence. Does it affect any other neighbours ? If you think it does , have a chat to them and ask them to report it as well.

Hope you sort it. Having lived next door to an awful neighbour for 6 months , years ago , I share your pain!

The local authority doesn't always help. I tried, and after three lots of diary sheets, they said I couldn't have any more as it was in breach of their (my neighbors) human rights.

Teenagers can be a big problem, they just don't care. All they think about is themselves and their good time.

We tried everything except violence. Nothing worked. They had too grow up and leave home. (jail....haha)

Your local authority was wrong. I completed about 6 when living in a flat above the most inconsiderate and obnoxious neighbours. They were eventually evicted even though they had a three year old son.

I did warn the mother at silly o'clock this morning that if I had to knock on her door again to ask to keep the noise down then I would be going to the local authorities... So let's see how it goes..

I feel like I'm a walking zombie at the moment

And thanks for the tips about keeping a diary on events

Could Luke not knock on their door at 4.30 on his way to work and ask if it's a good time to talk about inconsiderate neighbours waking you up or would it be better to pop round later. Hopefully they'd take the hint.

My neighbours can be pretty shit - I think less than a quarter of my cul-de-sac actually work so the others are just doing stuff all hours of the day and night. As it's a cul-de-sac it's like a mini ampitheatre so someone hoovering at 4am and doing their laundry (washer and dryer in the garage banging around) is a pain in the arse in the summer.

if you can hear conversation then perhaps it's time to invest in some sound insulation.

We don't need sound insulation.. The teenager was shouting and generally being very loud, a word with the mother has helped
