...Up on the Downs

Ok, got a squared up logo done in Ai, saved files as Ai, Pdf and Jpeg, and the client cannot drop it into Word documents without there being some white border round it. The jpeg saves to full width but there is still a border at the top, how much according to the proportions of the logo rectangle (different franchises vary in dimensions)??

So what's the best way to make it a cutout logo without any border, or with a transparent one??

I thank you! x

willenhall

to go into "micro soft office" try as a PNG with transparent background from illustrator

or if it has to go into a specific location on the word doc make it the exact size and position in illustrator on an A4 page save as a jpeg and insert into word as a watermark at 100% this should be exactly where you want it to be

You can't save a JPEG with a transparent background. Set the background to transparent and save as a GIF

Will try finding a transparent setting. I thought gif too but it didn't seem to offer me the option to save/export as a gif? Is there no way to dispense with the border/ canvas after creating the design?

What governs the proportion of the jpeg canvas I wonder?

Ok managed to find how to save to gif, but it still saved on a huge white background. Been wandering around illustrator for nigh on an hour and can't find the word background anywhere, let alone a way to make it transparent. Artboards?? What if I adjusted the artboard to the final size of the logo?

Yeah I know, I need a handbook........

"Where's Funky??"

Hello, sorry, I'm back now. I was on a fact finding mission in the Trelex System circa 3012. FYI I could not find any blue women

As has been stated above the best way to avoid the white borders is to export it from illustrator as a PNG with transparency.

1. Put logo on separate art board

2. Go into file menu and select 'save for web'

3. In resulting window select PNG-24 at the top right in the presets menu

4. Tick the transparency checkbox

5. Click save!

6. YOU WIN!!!

Ah now then, I see what Sam meant now - the 'save for microsoft office' version makes it without a border anyway! With the PNG 24 option, you have to de-select artboard to make it save without a big white border!! (see no flies on me!)

Strangely the jpeg image is much stronger still in Word, more saturated looking - and works if it is the same proportion as the logo. I wonder if you can govern the format of the 'page' when you save to jpeg?

I'll get there eventually....

Are you working in RGB or CMYK in Illustrator? If you are working in CMYK then the conversion to PNG format which only supports RGB will cause colour discrepancies. JPG supports CMYK.

Ah of course, yes, in CMYK normally. Anyway, sent three new versions off, they seem to work in his word doc at this end anyway.
