I have a rule when lending/giving money to people. If asked to borrow the person must be in a bad financial situation. I will only lend money if I can afford to not have back as I personally would never ask for it. If I can give now but need back at a certain time I will not lend as they may not yet be able to give it back and that will cause a rift I don't need. I have lent money on a number of occations and only once not got it back but I don't mind as I don't lend I give.

Not experienced it on here and i've never been on match so would'nt know about it there. However i do have a profile on another well known swingers site and have received random emails there from strangers asking to meet but they need me to send the plane fare as they live abroad and can't afford the flight to the uk.

Needless to say those messages just get deleted, but some poor bugger must fall for it occasionally otherwise these scammers would'nt keep trying it on sending out random emails to people?

I had someone I thought was my friend just use me as a break from life. I met him through here, lost my best friend because he used me for my flat, electricity, water and food etc. So technically got money out of me in a way. Never again

I think its easy to underestimate how powerful the need to be loved is and how soul destroying loneliness is. I know of a woman who has been bled dry over the course of about 12 years bya waiter from a foreign holiday resort. He's married but of course only staying with his wife until the children grow up. She has sold the house that she lived in with her late husband to finance him and lives in a tiny bungalow waiting fir the next time she.can get out to see him. When concerned people try and talk her out of it she just says "I love him.and you don't know what it's like to be.lonely".

I think he drip feeds her crumbs, phone calls, letters things like that. I think his wife is in on it and prepared for him to do this for the benefits it brings. She's even bought him expensive farm equipment and of course there was the one about I won't be in contact for a while I have to go away to work to earn money for medical treatment.

exactly as said above I thought he was a nice bloke. He showed his true colours eventually but now I am very cautious as to who I let get close

I'm a naturally generous person, if someone I know is in hardship or just needs a hand then I won't stop to think about helping them if I can.

I'm also a very trusting person, and as someone above stated that as a trustworthy person you assume others are too.

I've never been conned or scammed, i'm quite street wise and fairly intuitive but I can see that if you have that trusting personality, mixed with generosity plus naivety it can be a dangerous combo.

It is maybe a good job I'm skint, anyone trying to scam me would be fighting a losing battle coz I couldn’t give them any sizeable funds even if I wanted to!

I feel I am a generous person but, with kindness, love and the little things that count.... Not giving them money

I think generosity comes in all forms and is about giving the person you care about the thing that they really need, provided it's feasible to do so. Obviously love, kindness and those little things are without doubt the most important though and should go without saying in my book.

However if someone I knew was at risk of losing their house as they are behind on their rent, I'd help financially as much as I could but I'd also try and help the situation from recurring in the future by giving advice etc.

As my mother used to say: 'Never be a borrower or lender be'.

Don't be suckered in with phone calls and emails asking for creditcard details for random phone deals or to launder money in Africa - if it's too good to be true, then it usually is.

Watched a programme a few months ago about women being scammed by foreigners they've met on holiday...a fool and money are soon parted comes to mind...

There was something on one of the morning programs the other month. Two women had been dating the same man. Obviously they didn't know about each other at the time. But he had gotten huge amounts of money out of both ladies. They trusted him at the time. As they both thought the relationship was moving forward. Love or the need to be loved can make you blind. A sad fact of life today. People will have the shirt off your back. If you make it easy for them....
