I'd nip to your docs in the morning and ask them for one

http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Tetanus/Pages/Introduction.aspx

If your wound isn't deep and you've had ALL of the childhood injections you should be fine. The injection that lasts 10 years is generally given as a precaution for high risk people (gardeners, animal handlers etc)

BUT.. if you're still concerned book an appointment with your general practice nurse, she can give you a booster jab.

Hope that helps

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

If you ve encountered the bug in intervening years it boosts your immune system

I had a tetanus booster and they included diptheria and polio, i think it was twenty plus years from my last one,

I remember having a small terrier hanging off my hand, it required stitches, but I don't think I needed a tetanus...

There is no point having a tetnus after the event anyway as it will be too late to protect you. That's why they no longer offer them after bites

Maybe ring nhs direct (if it still exists or it could be the 111 service).

They always seem helpful and knowledgable, and I'm sure could put your mind at ease either way, and maybe save you a trip to the GP?

Which reminds me that I should register with a gp

LONDON (se)

I had one when I was bitten and I had had one within 7 years. Then again I did have a big hole in my face so maybe they were being cautious

Hahaha

Possibly - I'd put my hand in to extracate it from a fight with another terrier belonging to me....

My own fault for putting my hand in a dog fight, but I hadn't got a bucket of water handy, that usually sorts over excited terriers out...

As long as your jaw is still working you should be fine.

I did that with our Fell terrier once and luckily came out unscathed.

Tetanus shots last 10 yrs, wound should be ok if it was washed out with a saline solution... as for the dog get your hands on a CO2 extinguisher and give it a blast next time the dog comes near., it wont do it again
