Opening jars and bottles

How many ladies can do this consistently? It sounds a bit clichéd, but I came across some young women earlier struggling to get their water bottles open, so offered to help - it made me feel all manly

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I've got gammy weak hands. I have several jars in the cupboard I can't open and so they remain in the cupboard going out of date.

Somewhere in North Norfolk

It's rare for me to be unable to open a jar or bottle.

I'll use rubber gloves or such for additional grip if I need to, though it's not usually necessary.

If its a crappy cheap plastic bottle then I sometimes struggle getting the lid untwisted as they seem to collapse as I turn it

Other than that I get most open on my own

I turn jars or bottles upside down and bang the bottom a couple of times it breaks the vacuum and you can then open with ease.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I've got a grip like a vice (be warned, boys ) so don't struggle with jars or bottles. In fact I helped a nice man open his bottled water once. Well, I couldn't let the poor dear struggle.

Great tip I learned some years ago for opening stubborn jars. Take the jar and give the side of the lids a sharp tap on your worktop, it then easily opens

Pierce the lid with a Sharp pointed implement. Releases the devilish vacuum that holds it down.

...Up on the Downs

A few sharp taps round the rim with the back of a knife works on jam jar types - no idea why, but they are easy to get off after.

I've got tendonitis in my left elbow at the minute, the inflammation is restricting my ability to grip at the minute (it's ok, I'mright handed!) Felt like such a prat today when I couldn't even open a packet of crisps for my little one! So any guys wanting to feel manly can come and open all sorts for me for the next couple of weeks

Herts

No problems opening bottles or jars but I'm cack-handed and am awful with a tin opener.

I also usually have to get Vince to open random things that seem to have been made by Hercules himself... Like the sauce pots you get with Dominos pizza.

I do and have a special tool to help me however I do struggle with very large jars so if my son is not around and all the tricks have failed, I stand it on the floor and tap the lid with a hammer

"I've got gammy weak hands. I have several jars in the cupboard I can't open and so they remain in the cupboard going out of date.

but why bother, you have a spoon no doubt in the cuttlery draw, use the handle end, and lever it between the jar and the lid, it will release the seal and the jar will open without the slightest pressure
