In two weeks time I will be enjoying a large glass of wine on the deck of my (Sun) caravan by the beach in the south of France with friends.

I'm just beginning to get properly excited - I've even started making lists of what to pack!

Where are you going? Have you already been? Is it somewhere new to you or somewhere you've been before?

I've never been to the south of France and my French is just a few words so it's feeling like an adventure.

Depending on where you're going southern France can be stupidly expensive.

Buy bread fresh every morning and don't worry about speaking French, they nearly all speak English (although they'll claim they don't because they're French afteral).

We plan to spend most of it on the beach or by the pool.

We'll also be doing a lot of self catering, we'll have a barbecue and a deck so that'll probably be most of our evenings.

I'm trying to book one of the big domed places with the big pool and flumes in a forest for half term. I'm not having much luck.

Plus my usual tour of the Fab country hasn't got a new destination yet.

I adore France. I was married to a French woman and lived in Paris for a while. I have travelled the country extensively and love it.

I have always found the French people friendly. Attempt to speak a few words of their language and it breaks the ice. They do appreciate it when you try.

I am very jealous as the South of France is beautiful and we are not going away this year, as all out money is going in to renovating the house.

I have always said, that if I won the lottery, I would emigrate to France.

Bonne vacance

Thanks Ben. I've just dug out my French phrasebook.

We'll be on the coast near perpignan, but I suspect we won't be seeing much more than the beach.

I'm humming and haaing about an escorted tour for the Northern Lights, but the single supplement is fecking huge for a 4 night tour

Another possibility is a Nile cruise for Xmas or New Year...I'm struggling to decide which to go for

Next weekend, Wyrd and I are going to Galtres Festival over in Yorkshire so that's 3 nights camping, getting d*unk and listening to bands (only 3 of which I've actually heard of)

I went to turkey by myself for two weeks last year, my mum tried to stop me, then asked my sister to go with me etc but I chose to go by myself and told them I wanted to go alone even though I was shitting myself thinking I'm going to be sat on my own for dinner and won't be going out much at night cos of safety etc...my oh my, I was wrong, I had the best time in years, it was liberating, met so many different groups of people, only spent one night at the hotel and partied every night with people who welcomed and invited me to come out with them, it was great, such an eye opener, I wouldn't have spoken to most of the people I went out with and spent time at the hotel with if I went with somebody but because I was on my own, I did and people at the hotel mingled and sort of looked out for me in a way! I got carried to my room and tucked into bed on a few d*unken occasions! It's nerve wrecking if it's your first time and a very brave thing to do but honestly you'll probably love it, I'm so glad I did it, it gave me confidence and boosted my self esteem massively as I was in a bad place before I went, I had company when I wanted it and when I wanted to just lounge and read my books I could...it helped that there were a few single travellers where I stayed too cos it instantly made me feel like I wasn't the only Billy no mates and there were more Billy's like me! "no holiday here - no bloody money ggrr"

My lovely trip to the south of France is one of the Sun £9.50 holidays. Admittedly it works out more then that once extras are added, it is still the cheaper option.

I did have a great week in prestatyn with a friend that cost us the grand total of £38 plus a tank of fuel to get us there so it can be done cheaply.

I did have a great week in prestatyn with a friend that cost us the grand total of £38 plus a tank of fuel to get us there so it can be done cheaply.

many years ago (about 35 yrs) there was a persil/british rail offer - paris for me and my flat mate for almost next to nothing - hotel was basic to say the least and we did nothing but walk for miles to see it all, but we did see all the main touristy things- no money to really go out so cheap wine and food back in the room each night - took ages to collect all those damn tokens "

If you Google sun voucher codes whilst the promotion is on you'll get results for either mums net or money saving expert where you can get the codes. The only paper you need is one which tells you how to log on to book.

I'm not going on my hols until October. Going to Marrakech with my mum for my birthday. Can't wait!

Just had a weekend at Alton Towers so I guess that was kind of a holiday although I wouldn't have chosen the company

I went to Moscow by myself - it was amazing Z

Yeah but I wish I was going with someone

I get that - you're bloody brave going away on your own - you'll have a blast, stay safe Z

I bet you my mother is gonna try and get someone to come with me or not let me go lol -.-"

she'll be worried which is totally understandable but as sofia said - go for it! Z

Sheffield

12 sleeps

I'm not remotely excited...

Btw I have travelled quite a lot on my own and as long as you are open to meeting new people but keep your head screwed on (don't get hammered if you don't know where you are, always have taxi fare and a number, go off with people but possibly not in their vehicle, consider meeting them there, don't assume that cos someone looks dodgy that they are - most people are nice if you're nice to them) you may have experiences you would never have had if you had gone with friends.
