What's everyone's favourite film of the year so far? And what are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?

Mine has to be The Wolf Of Wall Street or Her.

Interstellar is my most anticipated film, hoping that will be something special.

Special mention to The Raid 2. Just finished watching it for a second time and it's the most incredible action film i've seen in years!

Btw, instead of making another thread we can use this one to talk about the worst film you've seen this year aswell.

Edge Of Tomorrow

Arbitrage

Still got Gravity to watch... waiting for a good evening with a good bottle of wine. I assume it's gonna be great

Lone Survivor was excellent although it missed huge chunks of the true story out.

Guardians Of The Galaxy was great fun.

A Million Ways To Die In The West because it was one big fart joke and I love fart jokes.

Expendables 3 because I can just turn my brain off and watch all my favourite 80's action hero's blow shit up!

Went to do my nails yesterday and passed a cinema charging £4.99 for tickets. Expendables 3 with Harrison, Mel, Sly et al...left my brain at the door and enjoyed every second!

"

If you're the type that still reads those paper things with letters and ink, you might just like this. =b

On a more serious note, it was easily one of my faves of 2013, and I was rather miffed due to the flak it received about it having "no story" and the other assorted bullshit from many self-appointed experts. If you enjoyed the likes of either build of 12 Angry Men, Carnage, Breakfast Club, Res. Dogs, Phone Booth, Cube, Lebanon, or any of other single-location character-centric films, it might just jive with you, but it does have a very distinct character and is quite subtle in its ways (think of the Walt-Gus duel of minds in BB; it was blindingly obvious Gus wasn't getting in the car, but only if you paid attention. It's a similar deal with gravity, but instead of present giving away the future, it's more centred on revealing the character background and personal intentions and motivations), the plot of the film being the main character rather than the events in the film. In short, don't expect an odyssey, but rather, an in depth character study.

And it really was made for imax

As for me personally, 2014 has been an incredibly bland year so far; the blockbusters are the typical cinema-fodder so far, and I'm awaiting the smaller-release season. Her is a magnificent piece however, and has climbed to one of my all time tops the first time of many that I've watched it. 2013 has been my favourite year of releases the recent history, here's to 2014 putting a dent in that

Just watched "All Is Lost" ... amazing!!! Truly inspiring cinema imo.. up there with early Terrence Malik... deeply ponderous... wonderfully shot... and very evocative. I won't spoil it by telling you the plot but I can tell you the entire script... "Fuck". Definitely one for the collection
