Give the job to someone else? I hate tradesmen who let ya down. It's just poor planning and time management on their part.

We've got loads of plastering that needs doing so I'm gonna learn how to and save a few quid. A plastering course is cheaper than the tradesman. And infinitely more reliable I might add

I have done a bit of plastering myself, a mate of mine bought a run down house that we had to gut out, so we watched a few video's on plastering and gave it a go, you can learn but it does take a fair bit of practise and normally needs a bit of sanding down, well are work did anyway pmsl. I wouldn't mind doing a course, I think I could get the hang of it in time.

Plastering I can do as I did a course a few years ago- making a good job of a ceiling or finding time to do a whole room in less than a month is a different matter. But anyone who fancies trying, get down to your local technical college as it's not that tricky

Why not just plaster board and sticky it on with no nails. Then just tape the joints saves a lot of hassle and paints great. If u want to Tile and the wall is flat the tiles look great when done.

I know they do that a lot in the US, would be easier than plastering but would reduce the size of the room more by the time you use the dob and dab, stuff that holds it to the wall, not sure no nails would do the job.

Plastering is an art it takes time & patience a good trowel is the 1st thing you need not a £5 special from B&Q

The tape & joint method is crap and will always show cracks

Your average wall / ceiling will only take a qualified spread around 3 hours so £260 is steep in my opinion

Use check a trade or find a trade and look at the tradesmen reviews etc

And go with a recommendation

Titz Towers, North Notts

I once did some plastering following a rewire. The decorator I hired came in to price up and took one look at the plastering. He did that sucking breath in through his teeth that all tradesmen love when confronted by someone else's work and said that the sparks couldn't plaster for toffee and he'd have to do something with that. I didn't confess.

I have found plasterers to be the most unreliable of all trades. Lost count of the number that came round quoted I said yes just come and do it for them never to come back.

I'm sorry but if it was just an over skim. Most bathroom ceilings well in hull are no bigger then 6sqm. I charge £10 per sqm for over skim ceilings maybe abit cheap yes but I get plenty of work. I'm reliable and good.

the celling is 8ft bye 6ft which he did a nice job of in and out in about 3 hours, then I decided I would have the walls done as well, which he said he would do for £120 booked to come on Thursday now, I hope he doesn't let me down again, as the new toilet and vanity unit came today, so I am eager to get it all done and dusted.
