"I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2008 i went to a meeting and people were angry about getting it why. They asked me what I thought and I said it could have been worse it could have been cancer. They try and frighten you what happens . I don't follow any diet I eat and drink what i want . I also take 2 tablets a day. When I go for my annual check up so far they say I am managing it well! The medication works far better than it did years ago. Good luck with it but dont worry to much and always keep happy" I know it could be worse. And yes glass half full is always the best way .

"I'd advise Try not to use the word diet , you are about to make lifestyle and eating habbit changes that you should understand and adapt for a lifetime Aim to eat regularly , very regularly 5 to 7 times a day . Small hand full portions Try not to eat when hungry 2 reasons ,oone you're diabetic hunger can be a sign too late that you need ed food, 2 a hungry person always over eats and makes bad food choices I meant adapt above not adopt the key is for you to understand , the subtleties of nutrition and how you cannot adopt a one formula approach . Your nutrition needs are precise and will alter depending on your activities , sleep and hydration Nuts , fish, pulses eggs are your friends " Thanks for the info. I'm trying to eat more regularly and have changed to a smaller plate.

I was surprised how sugary orange juice is or fruit juice in general and a normal jelly amazed me!

"the general good advice I'd give is. a good lean meat accompanied by good veg, avoid the potatoes/starchy vegetables though. (so spinich, carrots, peas, runner beans etc are all good places to start) Very simple and with good quality ingredients you'll find you don't need all the sugary starchy sauces to add the flavor. also the fats from the meats can make great sauces/gravy's. Fats and proteins are going to be slower burning for you than sugars and carbs so increase them proportionally so you still get the energy you need for your daily allowance." Thanks for the advice. vegetables is the one thing I can eat endless amounts of. We don't eat much processed food anyway but it needs to be less.

"I didn't think you went hypo with type 2" They no longer issue a testing machine to everyone who gets diagnosed so many have no idea what their sugar levels are day to day, just when they get tested by the doc or clinic. If the OP doesn't have one you may want to consider purchasing your own.

I'm seeing nurse in 2 weeks so will ask about it then.

"I was diagnosed in 2001 and was on heavy duty medication at first. I lost some weight (still have a LONG way to go) and that helped to the extent that I don't need the meds any more. To be honest, I hardly ever think about it now. I have my regular annual checks and it always comes back as 'good control'. Losing weight seemed to have a better effect than what I ate. I do get complacent though and need to kick myself up the bum occasionally when I get lazy and back into old eating habits." Yes losing weight is my main goal! I'm trying very hard. Good thing is I never drink much alcohol anyway which is one thing in my favour !
