british porn industry will die

most people are probably unaware, but recent guide lines regarding "on demand video" implemented by ATVOD has effectively killed the british porn industry.

I was unaware of this before chatting to a friend who has successfully ran a few UK based porn sites for many years, he is no longer shooting content, its just not worth his while.

basically, all sites offering on demand videos in the uk, must now age verify its customers, this apparently is costly and complicated. A regulation fee is also now payable and failure to keep within guidelines can mean upto £250000 fine for the site operator.

Alot of small websites have already closed down, which of course means less and less content is being shot. Those sites that are still operating have to rely on foreign customers to bring in revenue, so have seen a massive decrease in revenue, causing many to stop filming.

So guys, for those who are partial to british porn, in years to come, most of what you watch will be years old. Those with aspirations of getting into porn, think again.

So will this also apply to webcams and chat rooms?

Surely it's the same and at as much risk of minors viewing inappropriate content?

If so then surely all adult swinger/ sex sites would have to comply with the same legislation?

it applies to "tv like" services, so dont think web cams would be considered so.

thanks for posting this info. Does that mean sites with visible images and video to the public, what about pay services like video in adult work? which is hidden until paid for.

Most websites which allow UK people to access hardcore pornography operate from outside the UK and therefore fall outside Authority for Television On Demand's (ATVOD) remit.

It would be a pity for the UK porn industry to die out, as we need all the tax revenue we can get to keep us bouyant. I'm sure it's the type of industry that would definitely just relocate abroad though, to avoid such controls. It should be the responsibility of parents to ensure that their offspring are appropriately taken care of.

Porn sites are big business and most of the newer successful ones aren't trying to take a piece of the pie and are looking T emerging markets.

If this has hindered anyone personally I'm sure they'd just find a way around it.
