"I'm a dipstick. I've just knocked a whole glass of cider over me laptop. I've stuck it on its side to drip dry. my question is will it work again or is it a case of RIP" I dread this kind of thing happening. I have no idea if it'll work again but let's hope so eh! ![]()

"I once did a whole pint of water on mine. I took out the battery and memory cards, opened the machine and hung it on the washing line (this is not a joke). Nothing happened for a few days but then I got a flicker. After a week it worked! However, I think my success was the exception not the rule. An I think your problem will be worse because my laptop was sober and yours will be pissed as a newt" Lol too true x

An I think your problem will be worse because my laptop was sober and yours will be pissed as a newt" Actually, its not too far from a possible solution. As long as the power is removed before any major components, water will probably not cause any major damage to an electronic device (there are exceptions). The cider is more of an issue as the sugars will leave a conductive and sticky residue. as long as the laptop hasn't dried out then washing in water may fix it. You will need to remove the hard drive and the battery (and ideally distilled water would be best as it has less impurities in it) and then it needs to be thoroughly dried out. if possible, id actually strip down the lower half to remove the motherboard, keyboard etc and wash them individually (you should really use an antistatic bond- but as its half way to fooked already i wouldn't worry). Reassemble (take pics as you strip it down- then reverse the process) and see what happens- might work or it might not....if it doens't then at least you'll understand a bit more about how a laptop works ![]()
