The state of things now !

Shopping in the local Supermarket last night and theres a little Lad stood on his own crying, he was about 4 Years old I think, now I wasn't going to leave him alone but didn't want to pick him up either so I asked a Lady passing me to get an Assistant which she did.

The Assistant took him to the Customer Service and called over the Tannoy for his Parents, his Mum and Dad came for him really quickly as he had obviously wandered off, it's funny how careful we have to be now a Days even when were helping out !

it is sad that it has come to this stage but at least you did swomething where a lot of others would have worried about it and then done nothing

I remember something similar in a supermarket too. I was in the queue to pay with my daughter when she was little and she was getting a sweet out a bag from me, another wee one in the queue next to me was watching eyes all agog, I offered her a sweet too and she said I can't take sweeties from strangers.

I was embarrassed but praised her and told her I would give her mummy the sweets to give to her, which I did.

Both her mum and I were embarrassed but were happy that she had unknowing passed a little life test by saying that.

its a sad sign of the times but you need to look out for yourself too so no accusations can be made! i can remember kiddo givin me the slip for ten mins in boots and it was the longest ten mins of my life! a guy had seen her wanderin about and got a shop assistant to leave her with till they found me rather than walk round the store with her! once they announced over tannoy abut her the feelin of relief i had was immense! and they little fooker got a set of reins purchased !x

Sad yes but in reality you have to make sure you don't get finger pointers coming to the wrong conclusion. The age of innocence is long gone now.

Yeah when i was younger (cant say little can i lol) i had a Set of reins and so did all the other kids my age

Would not surprise me if that nowadays they were tantamount ta child abuse,false imprisonment or some other stupid law

Personally i think they should be compulsory xx

Bet you swung on the reins or had to be dragged along the floor of the shop by them too.... explains a lot to me now!

Recently I was walking through the station car park. There was a young woman in front of me talking on her mobile, a young bloke and me.

The woman, not looking where she was going tripped on a raised curb and went tumbling. Instinctively the young guy went to help her then stopped. I could see he was torn: do I help her and be accused of abuse or leave her.

He looked at me and I helped her up and he blushed and walked off.

The sad thing is I sympathised with him - his natural instinct was to help, but the world being how it is today he was wary of doing so: afraid of being accussed of sexual assault...sad times indeed!

I can remember being in London struggling with a pushchair and a big bag trying to get down a long flight of steps to the tube.

There was a crowd of punks (was a few years ago lol) messing about and being loud close by, with out saying anything to me they grabbed the push chair and bag and frightened the life out of me, but they only wanted to give me a hand by carrying them for me. I was panic stricken for an instant, but my daughter in the pushchair was delighted with the laughter and nonsense they created around her.

Not all kids are as bad as they look yet sometimes the best of intentions can be misconstrued.

you should see me if I am going some where that I can not take the pushchair(as I do not drive) my 4 1/2 year old is prone to running off so he is back on his backback reins, plus the 3 year old twin girls(birthday tomorrow)I look like one of those dog walkers gettimg caught up in the leads when the kids all decide to go the wrong directions...lol

lol...tell me about it...my double buggy is on it's last legs and I am dreading having to have all 3 walking all the time...plus...where am I going to hang my shopping?lol

This thread reminds me of the reason I got laser eye sugery....I was 37ish and had worn glasses for 10yrs or so.

I was at the swimming baths on day with my 2 boys, and they were jumping in and out of the water. I couldnt wear my glasses with all the splashing going on, so was "pretty blind", lol.

Anyway, I was watching my youngest boy and then turned around and thought I saw my other boy struggling, so I grabbed him....but guess what...it wasn't my boy.

Anyway all was well, but I thought then that it could have turned out a lot worse.

So, after a little consultation with my doc, I booked myself in for the treatment, and even now, at 53 I still dont wear glasses at all.

paying with your daughter eh?

that could catch on sharpish, not sure how many groceries i would get for my two.

it would certainly put a new slant on a supermarkets returns policy
