Question for the ladies

I'm just wondering. Do English girls actually like the American accent, or is that a stereotype?

Brighton - even Hove!

There's a wide variety and ranges of American accents. California sounds different to Virginia and the famous Bronx accent is totally different to a Louisiana accent, for example.

I know. I'm from California myself. Should've pointed that out originally.

I like a lot of accents but it's the tone of voice that does it for me

Any novel accent is fun but sadly for you I don't think the ladies find American accents particularly hot, not like eg French , sorry!

I'm just asking because before I moved to England I kept hearing English girls love American accents, and vice versa. Yet I don't seem to get any of this "are you American? Awesome" reaction.

Must be my face :/

I think we are so used to hearing American accents of all sorts on the telly that they are no longer a novelty. In fact sometimes I don't even notice that someone is speaking with an American accent

I guess. I'm just asking because it's a stereotype, sometimes they're right. This case, I'm afraid it ain't

Titz Towers, North Notts

I like different accents and I really like meeting people from different places. Some accents are better than others.

Q, how do you upset a Canadian? A, keep calling them an American.

Q, how do you upset an American? A, pretend you've never heard of the city/state they are from.

I generally like American accents, can understand deep southern drawl, recognise various Californian ones and some north eastern ones. Does the op still have his accent? Any problems here?

I'm from arkansas. I gotta say that British men do seem to notice, and like, American accents. And I've had a few similar comments from the ladies, too.

Lol, I've been in Britain for over a decade now so it's eased a bit too more generic American moist of the time. Until someone pisses me off, at which point it changes midword back to a raging southern drawl. Which men seem to think is very 'cute'. Completely ruins my rant, when that happens.

Let me say first...I am not English...errrr I guess my opinion has no relevance to the thread...but (there is always a but) I will butt in and give my 2 pence worth...I like individuality and voice, tone, accents are a person's make up! If I understand what you're saying then all is good!

I also love the male escorts accents in the TV show Gigolos. Of course I'd like some time with them too

I do have my accent. I'm from San Diego, but not as strong as it used to be. I've been told when I get annoyed a few "english accent" words come out. I'm totally oblivious to it though.

Awesome is some really irritating , gut churning word that people under 25 have taken up through watching cheap American imported programmes.

I'd die if someone over the age of ( well adulthood ) said awesome.

I don't like the Americanism 'flavorsome'. Or 'gas' or 'trunk' or 'windshield' or 'stick-drive'. Ironic, as I really like American cars - well, from about 1950 to 1970 ones anyway. Oh yes, and 'hood'

50's to 70's cars? Like the 67 impala, 68 Shelby GT 500, dodge charger, just to name a few? American muscles are only good in America though. Driving in England is horrible :/
