Rest in Peace RIP on my facebook

Titz Towers, North Notts

Is everyone else's facebook full of pictures of Lauren Bacall and messages saying RIP you legend? Mine is chockablock with them.

I wish a lot of my friends wouldn't wait until someone famous has died to say how much meaning this person had for them. How about doing it whilst they are alive? I say someone famous, by that I mean someone who hasn't done anything for 30 years or so and for whom most people I know can name 6 films. My facebook gets snided with memorials to dead celebs. The surprise to me in many cases isn't that they are dead, but that they had still been alive the day before. The other surprise, as in the cases of Lauren Bacall and Shirley Temple is just how much significance they seem to have had on some 19 year old who is reposting the RIP pictures.

I'm often surprised at the outpouring for someone like Lauren Bacall because ffs she was 89 and in pretty good health for most of her time! She had a good, long life, she had love and success and friends - so why are people suddenly so heartbroken?!

Please God more of us go that way!

Absolutely agree! It's just bullshit posting to make other people think that they are a 'caring' person.

I also agree that people should tell those they care about BEFORE they die. So many times you see a crematorium packed out the door with mourners- I really hope that person knew how much they were loved.

Its Facebook, people will post every minor pointless update or personal detail of their day, from finding crumbs in a coat pocket to having explosive diarrhea.

this is why i don't have a nilla account anymore (just a perv account) and they don't post too much crap.

There is a quite astonishing outpouring of bullshit, sorry, grief when someone famous dies and I honestly don't understand this fake idolisation guff.

Robin Williams (who is still clogging up my FB inbox!) was undoubtedly a comedic genius and one of the more famous, larger than life characters who made people laugh though so many decades. The circumstances surrounding his death make it all the more sad and devastating BUT... to have people posting 'my favourite Robin Williams quote is...' Fuck off! All this fake idolising is just utter nonsense!

You didn't give a flying crap about him a week ago and if you ask the last film he was in (without using IMDB) most of the would struggle beyond Mrs Doubtfire, Flubber or Hook!

By all means say it's sad that he's passed away but hear people are 'devastated' and 'overwhelmed with sadness' is complete BS!

This is how bad faxebook and prob other social media affects the ability to actually have face to face conversations

i always if passing folk always say morning etc some look at me and think fuk someone actuallly speaks its like rabbits in headlight job.

i was in town few month agi and these two people were chaating and actually used tge word lol what the hell is going on.

I can see benefit of facebook for being in touch who live far away etc but why have next door neighbours etc and message them instead of getting off arse and actually talking.

Personally I've never understood why this was such an issue to people, or why people (not OP in particular) always wish to focus on the negatives.

Genuine grief and sadness is one thing, but posting about someone who a lot of my friends have never heard of, saying how sorry they are she has died and how great an actress she was, just seems so artificial to me. I just wish they'd go back to posting pics of cats doing daft things.

I like facebook, its a great way to keep in touch with people, I have friends and family around the world and find the instant messaging brilliant. Also keeps me informed about things I am interested in and dates of events etc. As for the mock grief when a celeb dies I agree, I don't get it. Dont see celebs posting when a fan dies!

Haha I know what you mean and like it said, wasn't a personal dig aimed at you. More a sweeping generalisation based on convos I've had a few times before

Tbh.... I don't really care what ppl post on THEIR facebook as long as they don't post it on my page.. Saying that, I only have family and close friends on mine so their post I enjoy reading. Old friends or new'ish are thrown into restrict so they can't really see much of my stuff and I don't follow them so don't see theirs. Works for me!

You have to leave fb alone to die its natural death, like its predecessors. Greasy, spotty kids posting any old crap over and over is spam hell.
