England manage to scrape through in one of the weakest groups,even coming second to the Yanks.

Then they actually think they'll beat one of the better sides in the competition.

Of course I will be supporting our lads on Sunday, but I will have everything crossed during the game that our luck will hold out for 90mins.

Germany are a great team with a never say die attitude, and they are never beaten till the final whistle.

I too remember the 5-1 win, but also remember all the other times we have been on the recieving end of a football lesson.

Say what you like about the Germans not being very good, but they are always there or thereabouts come the major finals.

I wish we had the same sporting mentality

To be fair Der Kaiser was spot on about the rubbish we have been playing. And as a guy who has won the World Cup as both player and manager he is qualified to comment.

The reason the 5-1 win stands out is that we usually lose to the Germans (sorry Jeeeermans). 1970, 1990 and 1996 are three off the top of my head.

I for one admire German football, the fairer pricing of top level games and the way in which the sporting clubs are organised. We could learn a lot from them.

(even if they did bomb our chippy )

It was Saturday, 1 September, 2001, and it was a group qualifying match for the 2002 World Cup in Japan/South Korea.

At the finals itself, we qualified 2nd from our group, beating Argnetina 1-0 and drawing with both Sweden & Nigeria 1-1 & 0-0 respectively.

In the Round of 16 we beat Denmark 3-0, and then in the Quarter Finals we lost out to Brazil 2-1, the now famous Ronaldinho chip over Seaman's head for the winner.

And yes, Germany went on to lose 2-0 to Brazil in the final.

We compete as Britian in athletics and you can betcha life if Scotland was out there about to play Germany I'd want them to win. Scottish/English football rivallry only comes into play when we play each other. Especially in Rugby.

the way our government and media react about football hooligans you tend to forget about other countries hooligans!.

remember our soccer supporters(women included!) who travelled with liverpool during the 70s-80s were often attacked and knifed from behind while italian police stood and watched!,and who can ever forget the disgracefull italian masked hooligans on your tv screens on the day of the heysel disaster?.

remember too the turks who knifed to death leeds supporters in front of the police!,the dutch,germans etc were not exactly choirboys and that it was only british hooligans at football matches!.

i have met and befriended many germans(french,dutch,and belgians too!)through sport and work but always enjoy a good banter when it comes to the football matches and enjoy a few beers afterward in the bars,it's only the hotheads who have to fight afterwards and spoil it for both sides,the winners and the losers.

Mind you the Jeeermans are tough to beat and take all sport seriously.

My boss is a Jeeerman and I took him out for a round of golf the other day.

I don’t think many people think it’s going to be plain sailing and are well in touch with the reality that England may well (dare I say it)…………………… lose. However, combine this underlying knowledge with a passionate desire to see our boys once again victorious and it all just adds to the excitement because of the heightened anticipation and apprehension.

England playing out the last 15mins against Slovenia terrified they'd go out in an EASY group(as the Sun infamously put it) instead of trying to score the goals against a bunch of footballing nonentities that would have topped the group and avoided a group winner. This bunch of overpaid, over-pampered prima donnas should spend less time shagging each other's wives and channel their energies where they are paid to do so. They OWE their fans the performance of a lifetime after the rubbish that has been served up thus far.

That said, I actually think it might be a blessing in disguise for them that they have got the one team that SHOULD get them pumped up and playing for the jersey at long last - a team like South Korea, Chile or Uruguay would have been less fancied, perhaps, but very dangerous.

1966, 1970, 1990, 1996, 2001 - none of those matter a jot now - it's all about today. May the best team win!

The Germans thoroughly deserved to win today - they played much better than England. However, their defence was poor, and I think that Manuel Neuer is something of a liability.

I think that Germany didn't play to their full potential today, which makes the result even worse for England. To be honest, if they had been on form, we would have lost by 7 or 8 goals.

Maybe Beckenbauer was right all along!

However, I think that Germany will fare badly against Argentina in the next round, who will themselves go on to beat Spain in the semi-finals.

I predict a Brazil - Argentina final, as I can't see either Uruguay or Ghana being able to beat Brazil, assuming the Netherlands also fail.

Anyway, I'm sure my German neighbour will enjoy gloating over Germany dispatching England at the World Cup and a German driver winning the Grand Prix!

I've heard that there is a very big story soon to break involving one of the England footballers... one with a scouse accent.

I'm not sure to what extent any of this is true, and if it is, whether the site would be in trouble if names were mentioned.

Apparently the press have been prevented from publishing the details because the player in question managed to get a court order - something to do with the other party in the story being a minor (not a miner!).

Allegedly the other players in the squad were all aware of the details and one player in particular didn't appreciate the fact that he was punished for doing the same thing, whereas no action was taken against the player in the current scandal.

Supposedly this led to massive unrest amongst the team, which is apparently partly to blame for their lacklustre performances.

Make of that what you will.

I heard the same, about 3 weeks ago. Although techincally speaking, she isn't/wasn't a minor in the country of her origin. It all smacks a little of bs though, when you're on the pitch, those "things" shouldn't affect your peformance...
