So what defines a swinger?

Is it being a member of a site like this, is it when you've had a certain amount if meets or is it actually a state of mind.

Just wondering.

I try and avoid using words like swinger, vanilla, bi-curious etc I like to think people are just who they are, the sum total of things they like, don't like, want to try etc.

I know these terms are short hand and help us identify people with similar requirements but I also think they limit us unnecessarily.

I'm me,

and some people would say there isn't a word to adequately define the terribleness

ALthough that covers a wide variety of things.

I don't think that's just "swingers" though. I see swinging as just one facet of a whole range of sexual possibilities with one factor that's common to every swinging encounter, it involves someone that you aren't in a full time relationship with. Lots of people who remain monogamous all their lives don't limit themselves to societies norms.

It depends on what you define swinging as... To me it means something different to what my ex believed it to be... Neither of us are wrong; it's our own perception of what swinging is

I think then, that when all is said and done, ultimately, it's an individual perception of your self.

I personally would suggest that I'm a non practicing swinger, to borrow a religious connotation.

Joining a website doesn't make you a swinger in my opinion. I think you have to be part of the social scene too or you're just meeting people for sex,which is what I do. Meeting men one on one or a couple meeting one person just for sex isn't swinging even if you have a drink first and are friends. That's what I think anyway

Good question... I would have to say probably not,

For several years before L & I got together I had NSA sex with at least one woman a week with no intention of a relationship, not through this or any other internet site, just pubs / clubs etc. But never considered myself a swinger and only once was there more than two people involved.

When L & I got together she was previously in a FF relationship, and we agreed to an open relationship as she still has strong desires for women that obviously I can't help with. but that caused issues as NSA isn't always NSA. so we started going to clubs, Fab came later mostly for club reviews etc.

Since then we have grown and developed maybe closer to swingers than we were but probably not proper ones.

I've just had this very discussion with my mother who is discussed at me for being a 'swinger' but my niece who has had four partners at the age of 18 is ok coz she was in a relationship with them at the time... What??? Who are you trying to kid??? she's doing nothing more that I am... I'm just on a social site which has the word swinger stigmatized to it

Personally on another site I am on I identify as a kinkster and I think that term defines me far better. I may swing but that is just a small part of my sex life and I'd rather use a more all encompassing term. Similarly in D/s I don't identify as a Dom even though that's how I tend to play

Which is bigger the mouse or the mountain?

Perspective changes, we indulge in sexual activities involving other people outside our relationship, and sometimes in numbers greater than 2. We are not always a soft swap couple but mostly are with the emphasis on play being FF, so to anyone outside the scene we are full blown swingers, but from inside the scene not into full swap we are only fringe swingers.

Same for me and same site I suspect! I enjoy various kinks in my play whether that involves one or several other people.
