I've often noticed women horse riders when out and about in the country, and I remember being at school how a number of girls were enthusiastic about them too. Whilst there are obviously male jockeys, and I myself am impressed by their strength, endurance and history, it seems that recreationally at least horses seem to have a far greater appeal among women, I wondered why this is?

kids toy shops,, 'my little pony' etc..

dont know of any male toys that include horses, but there are often cute purple/pink horses that you can braid their manes/tails..

barbie has a block of stables etc.

Guess this just translates into a like for the animal as the child grows up.

The nurturing aspect I would guess. They are a lot more work that a furry motorbike and men typically want the kicks but are not so keep on all the care involved. Females lap that up - horses are like a cross between a dependant child and a SO, there is often a strong emotional bond and connectivity there, so much so that boyfriends often take second place.

Many are the protests of 'You love that horse more than you love me'. Well that would be a yes much of the time!

I suppose that makes sense, I mean it's not unusual for a guy to obsess over his car or motorbike, and spend hours lovingly cleaning and polishing it, but once that's done he can then put it in the garage and it'll stay there, fine and dandy (unless he forgot to lock it) until he next comes back to it. A horse however is a living creature and requires frequent care and attention in order to best ensure its well being, that I suppose would appeal to the more maternal instincts in a woman, aswell as its strength and romantic appeal that appeases to her need for passion and adventure.

Exactly, commanding all that power and muscle is quite a buzz, and if the partnership is good they can become almost an extension of your own will. They have many attributes we wish our men would have too - they have an acute awareness of, and sensitivity to us, and never answer back!

I had a special bond with a special horse I bred, and I had the full attention of that horse if I was anywhere in his vacinity - more than could be said for my husband!!

So the horse always got his meals first.....;-)

Maybe thats why blokes like motorbikes as they have the attributes we like in women......fun to ride and when you're tired theres a switch to turn off the noise?

We both ride. Her more so think she has four horses at the last count I can never tell to be honest as there is always one snuck in somewhere on the yard or at her Mums.

She has ridden all her life and her family before her. Love the lifestyle it's given us.

And thighs no doubt, I can't remember the last rider I saw who didn't have a firm looking pair'o quads.

You mean the trapezius? I suppose that would make sense from pulling up on the reigns.

God no, the reins should never be pulled, no rearward traction - it comes from the centre, the core muscles, you merely hold you own frame.

Ive ridden horses all my life and they are amazing loving creatures that trust and respect their 'owners' xx I once suggested to my son we sell his horse now hes at Uni and his reply was No way she knows too much I tell her all my secrets x

Exactly. To maintain your frame and balance without becoming tense per se, whilst resisting the forces the horses' movement exerts on you, requires a certain kind of dynamic core strength.
