I ordered some computer stuff from Hong Kong and the only problem I encountered was the delivery time.

Make sure you check their sellers feedback before you commint to buy.

If small many things seem to not be bothered with but most larger stuff eg cameras gets the duty.

Really check feedback too.

All postage costs should be clearly displayed on the Advert so no there should not be any extra.

Yeah same as above delivery time can be a bugger but the rest was fine for me. And if anything does go wrong, hopefully not, you can like ask for a refund from ebay.

I order a couple of retro frocks recently - they were absolutely gorgeous and 1/10th the price of similar in UK.

I have been stuck for customs charges for goods over a certain value from the US, not sure when that's a problem and when it isn't, but your gloves won't come into that.

I ordered a couple of Disney frozen stuff from Hong Kong, they are actually better quality than i was expecting for the price, 2 of the bits came in less than a week but a couple of tops I'm waiting on have almost been 4weeks now, I was expecting that though as a friend ordered an Olaf teddy and it took 4weeks to come

Really, so you have any evidence to back up this bold claim? I'm now worried as I must have a lot of fake cameras and lenses!

How could I have been duped so badly?

Purchased quite a bit from Hong Kong and China via eBay and never been hit with import charges - that seems to mostly happen with stuff from the USA.

Last thing i bought from from HK were 2 light bulbs for my video lights- excellent price, arrived undamaged and the only reason the took over listed 2 weeks to arrive is because i ordered them the day before Chinese new year, so the company was shut for about 5 days and someone mailed me as soon as i ordered to check this wasn't a problem.

As with any imports, you just have to remember that some items incur import duty which i think kicks in around the £18 value mark- just google search for the details.

I buy wigs from HK as they usually cost less than the postage and my son gets lots of his clothing from there.

As others have said, extended posting time is the only drawback if you want something fast.

We get lots from Hong Kong especially wigs, sometimes delivery is slow and we have now given up buying clothes as their large size seems to be a size 10 but for the most part it's a great place to get things.

You mean my Sorny camera and Phirrips shaver from HK might be fake?

I've bought plenty of stuff from HK and China, never had a problem except for an 8 week wait a couple of times.

My Own Little World

I have bough loads of stuff on Ebay from China/Hong Kong with no problems at all. Saying that though, like with anything bought over the internet, you have no idea of the quality until it is your hands, and clothes sizes can come up small. Time wise, I have bought stuff from the UK at the same time as from China and delivery time from the UK was longer

Central

I think ebay rules state postage costs should be clear and upfront. There may be customs duty to pay, which the post office often collect, alongside their admin charge for doing so. If the value quoted is low, you may need to pay nothing. Id prefer to try another closer country, if possible, but if that is the only source, then thats it. Also check returns and refunds policy. The feedback for the same items should be the best guide, though take a look at the users too, if they are all top grade reviews as some may be fake. Unlike fab ones of course.

Ive had a few bits and bobs and although it said Hong Kong on the ad Im sure they must have some local suppliers as the stuff came quicker than the normal First Class post

In comments ask them to put down its a gift that way you can get a more expensive item before you get stopped by customs.

Or second hand as this rarely gets charged

Just be wary of the sizes, I got my lad a pair of Xmas pjs to wear Xmas eve 2012 so he was coming up for 2. He's not a big kid and when I checked the sizing guide I had to order age 4-5 to get the correct measurement and they barely fit him then!

Yeah I had this problem. Bought my daughter a dress, she's a small for her age and I bought it 2years bigger and it's still too short

Goods coming in to the UK from outside the EU: law of averages says at some point your package will get stopped, inspected, and if over the value threshold you will be asked to pay vat and duty.

There are lots of fakes and bogus items sold from Hong Kong. If the item is electrical, be very careful. What may appear to be ok, may in fact be dangerous.

I've ordered loads of things from Far East and never had any issues or been charged extra import tax. Then again my items are usually under £15 so that might be why

(M) just spent two weeks over in China working, had a look round the fake market in Shanghai... bought a few bits and pieces... yeh its fake stuff but I dont really give one. Found a website where you can order all the same stuff I saw in the markets and its usually free postage. Ordered 2 polo shirts, they arrived today 3 weeks later so I aint complaining

If your item is over the tax free threshold then you will probably have to pay import tax plus a post office fee for collecting that tax, last time I was charged it was £8 just for the P.O. This can make your purchase more expensive than if you bought locally.

A lot of Chinese sellers have very fast delivery, some even overnight. With clothes you always need to go by measurements rather than U.K. sizes. Anything too expensive to return I would stay clear of.
