from october this year you wont be getting a tax disc anymore,as its all done electronically now,and you will be able to pay monthly,or six monthly, with a reduce interest charge, sounds good, and can all be done online as now.

now i wonder, without a tax disc are they going to instal a spy camera on every corner,as i can see more getting away without a disc on show.

what do you fellow fabers think?

you can buy 6 months tax anyway

id like the monthly option though as i like to budget stuff

service, mot, tax are all big payments that are one offs

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Number recognition is increasing for all sorts of things: car parking, sitting on double yellow lines, congestion charging. It'd be the same technology just tied to another grid.

There will be more that get away with it for a while but I'm getting more resigned to cameras seeing my every move.

I would imagine that you'd get a set time in which to put payment in place before fines are sent out.

They don't need additional cameras. Tax and SORN databases give most of what is needed. Use of ANPR software from petrol station CCTV would they catch most of those daft enough to use SORN vehicles without further deceit.

The spy cameras are already there, they will just tap into more of the privately run ones to cross reference against the DVLA database.

The monthly option would be a good one as long as they don't a high % premium for the privilege.

I for one will be glad I don't get a tax disc because no matter how careful I am trying to remove it from that perforated circle, I always rip the damn thing!!

From what iv read you will no longer be able to transfer tax from 1 owner to the next. So if you sell a car what ever full months of tax are left the registered keeper will get an automated refund an new keeper will need to retax it.......from a dealers point of view that's going to be a pain as car tax is often part of the deal but no more. Can you imagen all the incomplete month that are just going to get written off as always the government will make a nice little earner an we will loose yet again

Plenty of cameras are around already on main roads but likely more will be installed. Cop cars also have them, which would raise an alert. It will be a minority that dont have tax, so not tons of work, but if out of date then fairly easy to spot, unless you live remotely and only travel a mile or so - unless cops spot you.

ANPR cameras are in more places than people know about. only thing is some are for different uses. and run different software. and different databases.

Sounds good. Germany has a great system, all the info (tax and insurance) is on the numberplates too.

I look on that as a small issue if it makes it harder to get an uninsured car on the road as no insurance no tax etc which i hope will lead to less people getting hit by uninsured drivers as there will be more emphasis to pursue them.

Doesn't make much difference if the vehicle is falsely registered

it'll be based on the registration plate of the vehicle and as for the spy cameras on every corner, they are already on just about every road, ANPR, traffic cameras, car mounted ANPR cameeras, police and DVLA. Bus lane ANPR cameras. If you go near any sensitive locations, (Airports, Ports, Prisons, Hospitals) you'll have passed numerous ANPR cameras and video cameras. welcome to 1984

I can see one possible flaw in this, what if a perfectly legal car ,being on the road, and someone else had another car of the same type and colour, but used the legal cars number plate as well, may give dvla a headache to see one in Scotland and another down south within an hour.

I haven't displayed my cars tax disc in the car since I got it at Christmas as I heard this was coming in. One less thing to ruin the look of a decent car!

Though it is nice to get a piece of paper for your 200 quid pay out!!!

That is to stop unlicensed, uninsured drivers and criminals continually flipping taxed vehicles in order to avoid being caught. Not such a bad idea IMO.
