It was intended to decriminalize prostitution for Dutch working girls and free them from the shackles of pimps and brothels.

It has been taken over by pimps and gangsters who control the girls (mostly foreign) and the area. They intimidate any women who want to work independently and take a cut from 'their' girls.

This is part of an ongoing move to gentrify the city. Move sex and out and higher spending tourists in. It is tragic that a city cant embrace and accept all of its culture and history. And find a way to eradicate pinps etc.
