Getting my Sky dish moved

I need my Sky dish moved. OK, I could do it myself, but why prat about?

I started with Sky, (intending to try local ariel companies if necessary).

Sky: Yes, we can move your dish for you for £65.

Me: Oh, ok, well could you put me through to Disconnections please because I can sign up for Virgin free and then I don't need the dish at all.

Sky: Oh. Just a moment, let me see what I can do. I can discount the service call to £30 for you.

Me: That's still more than moving to Virgin for free. Put me through to disconnections please.

*I'm put through to disconnections and explain again*

Sky: Let me speak to my manager....*on hold for a bit* OK, as a one off we can do a service call for free.

Me: Wonderful, that would be great.

It pays to haggle. As far as I'm concerned, Sky is quite expensive enough as it is, I'm not paying to have the dish moved too.

And it saves me peeing about with ladders and drills.

A thoroughly worthwhile ten minutes.

Anyone else had any small victories today?

Pretty standard, all my dealings with Sky are done via the Retention's Team now, miss out the monkeys and go straight to the organ grinder!

My small victory is.. that I got out of bed

Nah seriously.. a big to you - and I fully echo the sentiment 'it pays to haggle'!!

I am usually too embarrased and get tongute tied.. But go for it people!!

They're getting another call soon since my 50% discount deal has ended and, as I have BB and 'phone with Virgin, they are offering me some enticing deals to take TV too.

I lose Sky Atlantic if I switch though, as well as losing access to everything recorded on my recordy box.

You should have heard the haggling we did over my dad's van insurance recently.

Original quotes were around £400. Final premium £288.

Van insurance is a really competitive market at the moment and we played three companies against each other.
